Hundred Of Forster
The Hundred of Forster, formerly the hundreds of Giles and Morphett, is a cadastral hundred in the County of Albert, South Australia. The localities of Forster, Purnong, and Claypans are within the hundred along with a large southern part of the bounded locality of Nildottie. History The Hundred of the Murray was the first cadastral division made in the space now occupied by the Hundred of Forster. When roughly half of Murray was split into smaller hundreds in 1860, the Hundred of Giles and Hundred of Morphett were gazetted and occupied northern and southern parts, respectively, of the same land. These divisions were short lived, however, as the Hundred of Forster and southerly adjacent Hundred of Bowhill were proclaimed in 1883 and Giles and Morphett were abolished. Part of Morphett came to be within the new Hundred of Forster while the most part became the new Hundred of Bowhill. County Of Albert
The County of Albert is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia on the east banks of the River Murray. It was proclaimed by Governor Richard MacDonnell in 1860 and named for Albert, Prince Consort of Queen Victoria. Hundreds A few years before the county was proclaimed, the Hundred of the Murray had been established to control land use immediately adjacent the river. This was abolished in 1860 and the county was proclaimed along with the five western riverside hundreds of Cadell, Randell (now Murbko), Paisley, Cooper (now Nildottie), and Giles (now Forster). Eight further hundreds were proclaimed to incorporated the entire county by 1912. The Hundred of the Murray (later called Hundred of Murray) was a cadastral hundred in South Australia spanning land two miles either side of the navigable portion of the Murray River in the 1850s and 1860s. The hundred was gazetted on 10 November 1853 and promulgated on 1 July 1854. The bounds were described as "all those Lands which lie within the distance of two miles from either of the two opposite banks of the River Murray, within the province of South Australia, together with all those lands which lie within the distance of two miles from the north shore of Lake Alexandrina, between Salt Creek Trigonometrical Station and the Murray, and two miles from the east shores of Lakes Alexandrina and Albert, and also all the land in the County of Russell lying west of Lake Albert". Lands Administrative Divisions Of South Australia
The lands administrative divisions of South Australia are the cadastral (i.e., comprehensively surveyed and mapped) units of counties and hundreds in South Australia. They are located only in the south-eastern part of the state, and do not cover the whole state. 49 counties have been proclaimed across the southern and southeastern areas of the state historically considered to be arable and thus in need of a cadastre. Within that area, a total of 540 hundreds have been proclaimed, although five were annulled in 1870, and, in some cases, the names reused elsewhere. All South Australian hundreds have unique names, making it unnecessary, when referring to a hundred, to also name its county (as is done in some land administration systems such as that of New South Wales). The District Council of Mount Pleasant was a local government area in South Australia from 1935 to 1997. The council seat was located at Mount Pleasant. It was established on 1 May 1935 following the amalgamation of the District Council of Springton and District Council of Tungkillo with a section of the Hundred of Finniss from the District Council of Mannum and a section of the Hundred of Mobilong from the District Council of Mobilong. It had an area of approximately , comprising mainly "agricultural, grazing and vineyard lands", and included the whole of the cadastral Hundreds of Jutland and Tungkillo and parts of the Hundreds of Moorooroo, Talunga, Finniss and Mobilong. District Council Of Morgan
The District Council of Morgan was a local government area in South Australia from 1888 to 1997, centring on the town of Morgan. The council was established on 5 January 1888 following the passage of the ''District Councils Act 1887''. It comprised the cadastral hundreds of Brownlow, Cadell, Eba, Hay, Krichauff (later renamed Beatty), Lindley, Schomburgk (later renamed Maude) and Stuart. It had nine councillors at its inception, appointed by the Governor, and held its first meeting at the Terminus Hotel at Morgan. The first elections were held in June and July 1888. District Council Of Mannum
The District Council of Mannum was a local government area in South Australia from 1877 to 1997, centring on the town of Mannum. It was proclaimed on 23 August 1877, comprising the cadastral Hundred of Finniss, "situated between the eastern fringe of the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Murray River." The first meeting of the council was held on 1 September 1877 at the Bogan Hotel (now the Mannum Hotel). It had 120 ratepayers in its first year, with a ratable property value of £2,910. In the early 1880s, the council area had a population of 773. It expanded in January 1888 under the ''District Councils Act 1887'', gaining the Hundred of Younghusband on the eastern bank of the Murray River; it also gained the northern section of the adjacent Hundred of Burdett in the same year. The District Council of Ridley-Truro was a local government area in South Australia from 1991 to 1997. It commenced on 1 October 1991 following the amalgamation of the District Council of Ridley and the District Council of Truro. It comprised the whole of the cadastral Hundreds of Angas, Anna, Bagot, Forster, Fisher, Jellicoe, Nildottie, Ridley, Skurray, and parts of the Hundreds of Dutton and Bowhill. It had sixteen councillors at its inception, with two councillors representing each of the eight wards of the former municipalities. The council's seat was located in the town of Cambrai. In 1996, the council was investigated by anti-corruption police after a ratepayers' meeting passed a vote of no-confidence in them. The District Council of Ridley was a local government area in South Australia from 1976 to 1991. It was established on 30 January 1976 with the amalgamation of the District Council of Marne and the District Council of Sedan. It included the whole of the cadastral Hundreds of Bagot, Fisher, Angas, Ridley, Nildottie and Forster, and parts of the Hundreds of Jellicoe and Bowhill. It was divided into four wards: Marne (two councillors), Forster (one councillor), Sedan (three councillors) and Swan Reach (two councillors). In 1986, it covered an area district of 2300 square kilometres, described as "bounded by Keyneton, Swan Reach, Bowhill and Sanderston".
