Humphrey Harwood
Humphrey Harwood (ca.1649-1700) was a soldier, landowner and politician in the Colony of Virginia. Early life The son and heir of planter and former speaker of the House of Burgesses Thomas Harwood was a young boy when his father died, so William Whitaker became guardian for him and his two sisters.John Frederick Dorman, Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia 1607-1624/5 (Genealogical Publishing Co. (4th Ed. 2004)) vol. 2, p. 299 His father and great uncle William Harwood (councillor), William Harwood had both arrived in the earliest days of the Virginia colony, and became political leaders as well as major planters. Queen Hith Plantation Complex Site
The Queen Hith Plantation Complex Site is a historic archaeological site in the Oakland Farm area of Newport News, Virginia. It is the site of the central complex of Thomas Harwood's extensive plantation, established some time after his arrival at Jamestown in 1622. The plantation was about in size, and extended along the banks of Skiffe's Creek. The site includes the foundational remnants of his 1643 house.
