Humber Arm
The Humber Arm is the southernmost arm of the Bay of Islands on the west coast of Newfoundland. The arm has the highest concentration of fresh water of the entire bay, due to inflow of the Humber River. The Humber is one of the major rivers on the island of Newfoundland, making the Bay of Islands an important estuary. Near the mouth of the Humber River appropriately named "Humber Mouth", is the city of Corner Brook (2006 pop.: 20,083), as well as several neighbouring suburbs. The Humber River was used for many years to float logs down to the Bay of Islands where a large Bowater pulp and paper mill at Corner Brook turned them into paper products. Today this mill is owned by Kruger Inc and its logs are transported by truck from the Goose Arm area and the Northern Peninsula and by barge from Labrador and Quebec. Humber Arm South
Humber Arm South is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town had a population of 1,537 in the Canada 2021 Census. The Town's Post Office is located in the section of the town referred to as Benoit's Cove. Humber Arm South is located in the Bay of Islands, and is in the Humber-Bay of Islands electoral district. History The Town of Humber Arm South consists of people who resettled from Wood's Island and several former communities in the area. Irishtown-Summerside is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located about 2.5 miles north of Corner Brook. The Post Office was established on March 1, 1965 and the first Postmistress was Blanch Anderson. The town had a population of 1,418 in the Canada 2016 Census. This contiguous settlement was formerly two separate villages, one of which was known originally as Petipas (or Petipa's) Cove. Lark Harbour
Lark Harbour is small fishing community on the western coast of Newfoundland, on the south side of the Bay of Islands, and west of the City of Corner Brook. Combined with neighbouring York Harbour, there is a population of about 880. Blow Me Down Provincial Park lies on the boundary between the two communities. The Bay of Islands is an extensive inlet located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland, in Canada. It is a sub-basin of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, consisting of many inlets such as Humber Arm and Goose Arm. The Bay of Islands is bordered on the north and south by North Arm Hills and Blow Me Down mountains, which are part of the Humber Arm Allochthon, which also include the Lewis Hills and the Tablelands. The largest island in the bay is Woods Island (which was formerly inhabited), which is surrounded in most directions by the Long Range Mountains and is directly north of the Lewis Hills.
