Humanity In Action
Humanity in Action is an international nonprofit organization that educates and connects young people who seek to become leaders on issues related to human and minority rights. The organization, founded in 1997, maintains offices in seven countries: the United States, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its flagship program, the Humanity in Action Fellowship, places more than 100 college students and recent graduates into intensive educational fellowship programs in one of five European cities each year. In 2015, Humanity in Action began a partnership with The National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta to start a sixth fellowship program, named after Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis. Extremism
Extremism is "the quality or state of being extreme" or "the advocacy of extreme measures or views". The term is primarily used in a political or religious sense to refer to an ideology that is considered (by the speaker or by some implied shared social consensus) to be far outside the mainstream attitudes of society. It can also be used in an economic context. The term may be used pejoratively by opposing groups, but is also used in academic and journalistic circles in a purely descriptive and non-condemning sense. Matt Haney
Matthew Craig Haney (born April 17, 1982) is an American politician from San Francisco currently serving as a member of the California State Assembly from the 17th district, covering the eastern portion of the city. A progressive member of the Democratic Party, Haney had represented District 6 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2019 to 2022 and previously served as a commissioner on the San Francisco Board of Education from 2013 to 2019. In 2022, Haney won a special election to the California State Assembly to succeed David Chiu, who resigned six months prior to become City Attorney of San Francisco. Maria Renske "Marietje" Schaake (; born 28 October 1978) is a Dutch politician who served as Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from the Netherlands between 2009 and 2019. Benjamin J. "Ben" Allen (born March 13, 1978) is an American attorney and Democratic politician. He has been a California state senator representing the 26th district since 2015. He previously served as University of California Student Regent and Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District school board member. Personal life and education Allen was born to a Jewish family and raised in Santa Monica, California. From 2003 through 2005, Allen worked for Congressman Jose Serrano. Tom Lantos
Thomas Peter Lantos (born Tamás Péter Lantos; February 1, 1928 – February 11, 2008) was a Holocaust survivor and American politician who served as a U.S. representative from California from 1981 until his death in 2008. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented the state's 11th congressional district until 1993 and from then the 12th congressional district, which both included the northern two-thirds of San Mateo County and a portion of the southwestern part of San Francisco after redistricting. Lantos, who served as Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in his last term, announced in early January 2008 that he would not run for reelection because of cancer of the esophagus. History Of The Jews In Denmark
The history of the Jews in Denmark goes back to the 1600s. At present, the Jewish community of Denmark constitutes a small minority of about 6,000 persons within Danish society. The community's population peaked prior to the Holocaust at which time the Danish resistance movement (with the assistance of many ordinary Danish citizens) took part in a collective effort to evacuate about 8,000 Jews and their families from Denmark by sea to nearby neutral Sweden, an act which ensured the safety of almost all the Danish Jews. Origins Medieval Danish art contains depictions of Jews—visibly wearing pointed hats—but there is no evidence that any Jews actually lived in Denmark during that time. Judith Goldstein
Judith S. Goldstein is an American author, historian and human rights leader. Her work has focused primarily on diversity, immigration and postwar history concerning Europe and the United States. She founded Humanity in Action, an international educational organization, in 1997 and serves as its executive director. As an author, she has largely been collected by libraries worldwide. Goldstein authored the book ''Crossing Lines: Histories of Jews and Gentiles in Three Communities'', published in 1992 by William Morrow and ''Inventing Great Neck: Jewish Identity and the American Dream'', published in 2006 by Rutgers University Press.
