Huinya
''Huinya'' is a collaboration between the Russian band Leningrad and the British trio The Tiger Lillies. All but two of the songs are Tiger Lillies songs translated into Russian and performed by Leningrad; the remainder are Leningrad songs sung by The Tiger Lillies in English. The album was recorded in 2003 and released in 2005. The title of the album means "bullshit". The Russian word "huinya" (''хуйня'') is part of the Russian vulgar slang, '' mat'', and means something useless, wrong or unknown. Leningrad (band)
Leningrad (russian: Ленинград), also known as Gruppirovka Leningrad (russian: Группировка "Ленинград") and Bandformirovanie Leningrad (russian: Бандформирование "Ленинград"), is a popular Russian rock band from Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), led by Sergey "Shnur" Shnurov. Composed of 14 members, the band was founded in the late 1990s. Leningrad worked in Gypsy punk style and soon became notorious for vulgar lyrics (including much Russian mat) and celebration of drinking. As a result, most radio stations initially avoided the band, which did not stop Leningrad's growing popularity, partly for purely aesthetic reasons, such as the rich brass sound. The band eventually made its way to radio and TV (with profanity bleeped out). Shnurov even presented several New Year's Eve TV shows. Tiger Lillies
The Tiger Lillies are a cult British musical trio formed in 1989 by singer-songwriter Martyn Jacques. Described as the forefathers of Brechtian Punk Cabaret, the Tiger Lillies are well known for their unique sound and style which merges "the macabre magic of pre-war Berlin with the savage edge of punk". History The band's name is rumoured to have been inspired by a murdered Soho sex worker called Lillie who used to dress up in animal print. Jacques, however, has stated that he named the band after a painting he had on his wall. The band formed in 1989 when Martyn Jacques placed an ad on Loot looking for a drummer and a bass player for a new band. Adrian Huge and Phil Butcher (the band's first bassist who was succeeded by Adrian Stout in 1995) were the only musicians that got in touch with him and therefore became the original Tiger Lillies' drummer and bassist respectively.
