Huguenot, Staten Island
Huguenot is a neighborhood on the South Shore of Staten Island, New York City. Originally named "Bloomingview", it was later named for the Huguenots, led by Daniel Perrin, who settled in the area during the late 17th and early 18th centuries to escape religious persecution. Huguenot is bordered by Arden Heights to the north, Woodrow to the west, Prince's Bay to the south, and Annadale to the east. The neighborhood is represented in the New York City Council by Joe Borelli, who was born and raised there. Huguenot is represented in the New York State Senate by Andrew Lanza and in the New York State Assembly by Michael Reilly. Staten Island ( ) is a borough of New York City, coextensive with Richmond County, in the U.S. state of New York. Tottenville, Staten Island
Tottenville is a neighborhood on the South Shore, Staten Island, South Shore of Staten Island, New York City. It is the southernmost settlement in both New York City and New York (state), New York State. Tottenville is bounded on three sides by water: the south side abuts New York Bight while the west and north sides are bordered by Arthur Kill. Nassau Place, Bethel Avenue and Page Avenue form the neighborhood's eastern border. The settlement was originally named ''Bentley Manor'' by one of its first settlers, Captain Christopher Billopp (Royal Navy officer), Christopher Billop (1638–1726), a member of the Royal Navy, after his own ship. Staten Island Railway
The Staten Island Railway (SIR) is a rapid transit line in the New York City borough (New York City), borough of Staten Island. It is owned by the Staten Island Rapid Transit Operating Authority (SIRTOA), a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and operated by the New York City Transit Authority Department of Subways. SIR operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing local service between St. George station (Staten Island Railway), St. George and Tottenville station, Tottenville, along the east side of the island. Huguenot Station
The Huguenot station is a Staten Island Railway station in the neighborhood of Huguenot, Staten Island, New York. History The station opened on June 2, 1860, with the opening of the Staten Island Railway from Annadale to Tottenville. The station's original name was Bloomingview, named after the former town of Bloomingview, which is present day Huguenot. Afterwards the station was named "Huguenot Park," which was shortened to simply "Huguenot" by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority shortly after it took control of the railway from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1971 (the MTA also shortened the name of the "Old Town Road" station to simply "Old Town" at that time). Michael Reilly (New York Politician)
Michael W. Reilly Jr. (born January 30, 1973) is a member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 62nd district since 2019. He is a Republican. The district includes portions of the South shore of Staten Island. Reilly formerly served in the United States Army Reserve and was an officer with the New York City Police Department. Andrew Joseph Lanza (born March 12, 1964) is an American lawyer and Republican politician. He currently serves as a member of the New York State Senate, representing the 24th district, which encompasses most of Staten Island. New York State Senate
The New York State Senate is the upper house of the New York State Legislature; the New York State Assembly is its lower house. Its members are elected to two-year terms; there are no term limits. Joseph Charles Borelli (born July 27, 1982) is an American politician and the New York City Council member for the 51st district and Minority Leader of the New York City Council. He is a Republican.
