Hugo De Burgh
Professor Hugo de Burgh (born 10 June 1949) is Director of the China Media Centre at the University of Westminster, which he founded in January 2005. Before that, he ran the Centre for Media Research at Goldsmiths College. de Burgh is founder, and Honorary Chairman of, Europe's first dual-language English Chinese School, Kensington Wade. He is State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs Endowment Professor at Tsinghua University, honorary fellow at the 48 Group Club, and board member at the Great Britain–China Centre. China Media Centre
The China Media Centre was launched in 2005 by Jeremy Paxman and Sun Yusheng, vice-president of state-owned China Central Television (CCTV). It was set up within the University of Westminster’s Culture and Media Research Institute (CAMRI). The China Media Centre (CMC) stated purpose is to study the world's largest media system. Funded initially by a grant from the Quintin Hogg Foundation, the China Media Centre has provided for itself since 2007 by winning consultancy contracts from the British, Danish, Chinese and Swedish governments plus sponsorship from British companies for specific activities. Its first client was the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The Danish and Swedish governments have employed CMC to deliver workshops in China. Goldsmiths, University of London, officially the Goldsmiths' College, is a constituent research university of the University of London in England. Dual Language
Dual language is a form of education in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages. Most dual language programs in the United States teach in English and Spanish, but programs increasingly use a partner language other than Spanish, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Hawaiian, Japanese, or Korean. Dual language programs use the partner language for at least half of the instructional day in the elementary years. Dual language programs generally start in kindergarten or the first grade and extend for at least five years, but many continue into middle school and high school. The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA; ) was an agency of the government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) that operated under the State Council and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. It was responsible for recruiting foreign experts outside of mainland China - including Taiwan and the special administrative regions - for work in the PRC, and managing the training of Chinese nationals outside of the PRC. It was headquartered in Zhongguancun, Haidian District, Beijing. SAFEA founded in 1956 and abolished in March 2018, when its functions were absorbed by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The 48 Group Club (originally, the 48 Group of British Traders with China) is a London-based nonprofit organisation dedicated to promoting trade between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the United Kingdom. The group is named after a British trade delegation of 48 businessmen, referred to as the "Icebreakers," who traveled to China in 1954 to establish trading relations between the two countries.
