Hugh Pollard (actor)
Hugh Pollard (born 29 October 1975) is a former British child actor, most recognised for his role as Simon in the Children's BBC show ''Simon and the Witch'' (1987–88). He is also known for playing the role of Hansel, in the movie ''Hansel and Gretel'' (1987). Pollard attended the Christ Church C of E School in Finchley, North London, before leaving in 1992. He graduated from the University of Kent, with a degree in radio, film and television. Following his role in ''Simon and the Witch'', Hugh won the role as ''Hansel'' in the film ''Hansel and Gretel'' (1987). His role in the film saw him team up with ''Simon and the Witch'' co-star Nicola Stapleton, who played Gretel. Pollard gave up his acting career, working briefly as a broadcaster for the BBC before gaining a job as a video tape operator. This job has taken him across the world, and involves him creating slow motion replays in sporting events, that include both the Olympics and The Championships, Wimbledon, Wimbledon. H ...

Major Hugh Bertie Campbell Pollard (born London 6 January 1888: died Midhurst district March, 1966) was an author, journalist, adventurer, firearms expert, and a British SOE officer. He is chiefly known for his intelligence work during the Irish War of Independence and for the events of July 1936, when he and Cecil Bebb flew General Francisco Franco from the Canary Islands to Morocco, thereby helping to trigger the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. He served his country in both World Wars and was the author of many published works on weaponry, in particular on sporting firearms. Sir Hugh Pollard, 2nd Baronet (1603 – 27 November 1666) was an English soldier and MP elected for Bere Alston in 1640, Callington in 1660, and Devon in 1661. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Origins Pollard was the eldest son and heir of Sir Lewis Pollard, 1st Baronet (d.1641) of King's Nympton, Devonshire, by his wife Margaret Berkeley, daughter of Sir Henry Berkeley, Knight, of Bruton, Somerset. Career He joined the army and by 1639 was a captain engaged in raising troops in Devon for the Scottish wars. The following year he was ordered to Scotland and was probably present at the Battle of Newburn. Civil War In November 1640, Pollard was elected Member of Parliament for Bere Alston in the Long Parliament.Helms & Ferris He became involved in the Royalist army plots of 1641 and, after being found guilty of misprision, was expelled from the House of Commons.
