Hugh Malone
Hugh Malone (January 22, 1944 – March 8, 2001) was an American surveyor and politician. Born in Catskill (town), New York, Catskill, Greene County, New York, Malone moved with his family to Kenai, Alaska and went to school there. He was a land surveyor and worked with his father. Malone served in the Kenai City Council and Kenai Borough Assembly. From 1973 to 1985, Malone served in the Alaska House of Representatives and was a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat. In 1977 and 1978, Malone served as speaker of the house. While in the legislature Malone created and introduced legislation that would later create the Alaska Permanent Fund. Malone then served as a commissioner for the Alaska Department of Revenue. Catskill (town), New York
Catskill is a town in the southeastern section of Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 11,298 at the 2020 census, the largest town in the county. The western part of the town is in the Catskill Park. The town contains a village, also called Catskill. The village of Catskill has a well-defined Main Street. There is a public boat launch on the Hudson River called Dutchman's Landing. History The area of the town was purchased from the indigenous peoples in 1678, and the first settler was Derrick Teunis van Vechten, who built a house here in 1680. The town was established on March 7, 1788, as part of Albany County. When Greene County was formed on March 25, 1800, Catskill became part of the new county. The town was increased by an addition from the town of Woodstock in 1800, but was later decreased upon the formation of the towns of Cairo (1803) and Athens (1815). Mike Navarre (born June 9, 1956) is an American businessman and politician who formerly served as mayor of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Borough and as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. Biography Mike Navarre was born on June 9, 1956, in Lansing, Michigan, one of eleven children (seven sons and four daughters) of George A. Navarre (1923–2009) and his wife Rose (née Doogan). The family moved to Kenai, Alaska, when he was an infant, where they established themselves in the business community. At first, the family opened up a grocery store, then branched out into an auto service business and fast food franchising, both of which currently operate locations across Alaska. He dropped out of college in the 1970s and moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, moving back to Kenai in 1978.
