Hugh E. Wild
Hugh Eldon Wild (April 15, 1918 – February 18, 2013) was a brigadier general in the United States Air Force. Biography Wild was born in Elmwood, Wisconsin, in 1918. He studied at the University of Iowa and George Washington University. Career Wild joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1940. He served in World War II, participating in campaigns including the Philippines Campaign (1944–45). Following the war he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command. During the Vietnam War he was in command of the 834th Air Division. Following his service in that war he was given command of the 322d Air Division and the 435th Military Airlift Support Wing. He retired on February 1, 1970. Elmwood is a village in Pierce County, Wisconsin, along the Eau Galle River. The population was 817 at the 2010 census. History A post office called Elmwood has been in operation since 1885. The village was named for a grove of elm trees near the town site. Geography Elmwood is located at (44.778996, -92.149090). Oak Leaf Cluster
An oak leaf cluster is a ribbon device to denote preceding decorations and awards consisting of a miniature bronze or silver twig of four oak leaves with three acorns on the stem. It is authorized by the United States Armed Forces for a specific set of decorations and awards of the Department of Defense, Department of the Army, and Department of the Air Force. The bronze oak leaf cluster represents one additional award, while the silver oak leaf cluster is worn in lieu of five bronze oak leaf clusters.
