Hueneme High School
Hueneme High School (HHS) ( ) is a public high school in Oxnard, California. The school is part of the Oxnard Union High School District and serves students in the southern portion of the city of Oxnard and most of Port Hueneme including part of Naval Base Ventura County. History Hueneme High School was established in 1959. On June 4, 2016, during that year's election season, U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton held a campaign rally inside the school's gymnasium. Academics Hueneme High School has hosted a Navy JROTC program since 1993. Athletics Hueneme High School athletic teams are nicknamed the Vikings. The school is a charter member of the Citrus Coast League, a conference within the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) that was established in 2018. CIF Southern Section
The California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) is the governing body for high school athletics in most of Southern California and is the largest of the ten sections that comprise the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Its membership includes most public and private high schools in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and central and southern Santa Barbara counties. At the start of the 2018/9 season, 13 schools from San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County left the Southern Section to join the much smaller CIF Central Section. The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. Dave Laut
David Lester Laut (December 21, 1956 – August 27, 2009) was an American shot putter. He was born in Findlay, Ohio, and grew up in Oxnard, California. Laut attended Art Haycox Elementary School, E. O. Green Junior High School, Santa Clara High School, Moorpark College (all in Ventura County), along with San Jose City College and UCLA, where he was a two-time NCAA champion and ranked No. 1 shot putter in the United States. Career Laut won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also won the gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games and the bronze at the 1981 IAAF World Cup. He was the 1979, 1981, 1983 and 1985 United States champion in the shot put. His personal best throw was 22.02 meters, achieved in August 1982 in Koblenz. Gerald Duane Willard (born March 14, 1960) is an American former professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1984 to 1994 for the Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, Montreal Expos, and Seattle Mariners. Ronney Jenkins
Ronney Jenkins (born May 25, 1977) is a former American football player from Los Angeles, California, who played four seasons in the NFL, primarily as a kick return specialist. High school career Jenkins had an outstanding prep career while playing for Hueneme High School in Oxnard, California, and he garnered much national attention during his senior season. On November 9, 1995, he set the national record for most yards rushing in a single game during a 52-34 victory over Rio Mesa High School. Howard Hilton
Howard James Hilton (January 3, 1964 – July 12, 2011) was a Major League Baseball pitcher who appeared in two games with the St. Louis Cardinals at the start of the season. Hilton was born in Oxnard, California, and graduated from Hueneme High School in . He played college baseball for Oxnard College before transferring to the University of Arkansas, and helping pitch the Arkansas Razorbacks, to the 1985 College World Series. Hilton was the starting pitcher in the fourth game in which his team was eliminated in extra innings. The Cardinals drafted him in the 22nd round of the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft.
