Hudson Incident
The Hudson Incident was a 1907 controversy following the death and burial of Kristaq Dishnica, an Albanian immigrant to the United States, which catalyzed the foundation of the Albanian Orthodox Mission in America under the leadership of Fan Noli, eventually leading to the Orthodox Church of Albania's formation. Background Eastern Orthodox Christians immigrating to the United States usually brought their distinct liturgies and languages with them. However, the case of the Albanians was different. In 1907 Albania was not yet an independent nation but under Ottoman rule, as it had been since the 15th century. Over the centuries, a majority of ethnic Albanians—who were mostly Christian prior to Ottoman hegemony—converted to Islam due to Ottoman influence and policies. Hudson is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States, with a total population of 20,092 as of the 2020 census. Before its incorporation as a town in 1866, Hudson was a neighborhood and unincorporated village of Marlborough, Massachusetts, and was known as Feltonville.
