Huckabay Independent School District
The Huckabay Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Huckabay, Texas (United States). The district has one school, Huckabay School, that serves students in grades kindergarten through twelve. The district is in northern Erath County. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. It classified as a 1A school by the UIL. Since there no longer is a post office in Huckabay, the school is addressed to Stephenville. In 2018, the school was scored 94 of 100 points earning an A rating. Stephenville, Texas
Stephenville is a city in and the county seat of Erath County, Texas, United States. It is on the North Bosque River, which forms nearby. Founded in 1854, it is home to Tarleton State University. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 20,847, and it is the principal city in the Stephenville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Stephenville is among several communities that call themselves the "Cowboy Capital of the World". History Stephenville is named after John M. Stephen, who settled there in 1854, and donated the land for the townsite laid out by George B. Erath when the county was organized in 1856. Huckabay, Texas
Huckabay is an unincorporated community located at the intersection of State Highway 108 and Farm to Market Road 219, ten miles northwest of Stephenville in Erath County, Texas, United States. It had a population of approximately 150 in 2000. History The small town of Huckabay was founded in the late eighteen hundreds. Gerldine Griswold wrote of how the community was started by John A. Huckabay, Ben Fincher, John and W.C. Copeland, John Gentry, Abe Metsgar, John W. Jones and others who were moving west from Arkansas and Tennessee. The head of the Bosque was the area where they settled which was known as "Flatwoods," but was changed to Huckabay, when John Huckabay established a post office. One hundred and sixty acres was claimed by each of the families, which was where they built their homes. State Highway 108 (SH 108) is a state highway that runs from Strawn to Stephenville. Route description SH 108 begins at an intersection with SH 16 in downtown Strawn, and travels east out of town on Housley Street. The highway turns south in Mingus, where it intersects SH 193. South of Mingus, the highway intersects and briefly travels east with Interstate 20. The route then departs to the southeast, where it reaches Stephenville.
