Huari District
Huari is one of the 16 districts that integrates the Peruvian Huari Province in the Ancash region. The district consists of the city of Huari, 15 small villages and 22 annexes. History Tradition says that Huari was founded by Juán Huarín. The foundation corresponded to the viceroyalty of Francisco de Toledo, Count of Oropesa in 1572, and was founded under the name of Santo Domingo de Huari. Its creation as a district was carried out during the Peruvian War of Independence. Geography The Cordillera Blanca traverses the western part of the district. The highest peak of the district is Rurichinchay at . The districts of Peru () are the third-level country subdivisions of Peru. They are subdivisions of the provinces of Peru, provinces, which in turn are subdivisions of the larger regions of Peru, regions or departments. There are 1,838 districts in total. Overview A 1982 law requires a minimum of residents in an area for a new district to be legally established: 3,500 if it is located in the rainforest, 4,000 in the Andes highlands and 10,000 in the Chala, coastal area. In the dry Andean area, many districts have less than 3,500 inhabitants due to low population density in the area. In some cases, their populations have decreased in comparison to the days when they were founded. Districts that are located at very high altitudes tend to be scarcely populated. Callejón De Huaylas
The Santa Valley (Quechua language, Quechua ''Sancta'') is an inter-andean valley in the Ancash Region in the north-central highlands of Peru. Due to its location between two mountain ranges, it is known as Callejón de Huaylas, the Alley of Huaylas, whereas "Huaylas" refers to the territorial division's name during the Viceroyalty of Peru. Going north from Lima, the road climbs to an altitude of 3,945 m, where the lake Conococha marks the head of the valley. This lake is the main source of Santa River. From here the road descends into the Callejón de Huaylas, demarcated by the Cordillera Blanca ("white range") to the east and the Cordillera Negra ("black range") to the west.
