Huai Kon
Huay Kon ( th, ห้วยโก๋น) is a Thai border village, the centre of the subdistrict (''tambon'') of the same name, north of Nan, Thailand, Nan, in Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Nan across from Muang Ngeum, Laos. Surroundings The crossing had been opened to traffic heading for Pak Beng and beyond along Laos Highway 4 (Muang Xai, etc.). A newly constructed road through steep mountains to Luang Prabang will cut 4 hours off the time between LP and Nan, Thailand beginning July 1, 2019 and serves as an alternative to overnight stay and transfer the next day to river boat from Pak Beng to LP. Nan, Thailand
Nan ( th, น่าน, ) is a town in northern Thailand. It is north of Bangkok. It is in the centre of Nan Province which bears its name, and of which it is the former administrative capital. It covers ''tambon'' Nai Wiang and parts of ''tambon'' Pha Sing of Mueang Nan District, an area of divided into 30 ''chumchon''. In 2010 it had a population of 21,333 spread along the Nan River's right bank. Nan is a small city, primarily devoted to commercial, administrative, educational, and hospital activities. The old heart of the city, where Wat Phumin, the national museum and other tourist attractions are found, is being restored. Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Nan
Chaloem Phra Kiat ( th, เฉลิมพระเกียรติ, ) is a district (''amphoe'') of Nan province, northern Thailand. History The district was created on 5 December 1996, together with four other districts named ''Chaloem Phra Kiat'' in celebration of the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's ascension to the throne. The area of the district was created from two districts. ''Tambon'' Huai Kon was previously part of Thung Chang district, while Khun Nan came from Bo Kluea district. Geography Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) Bo Kluea, Pua, and Thung Chang. To the north and east is Xaignabouli province of Laos with an international border crossing at Huay Kon/Muang Ngeun. Pak Beng
Pakbeng (Lao: ປາກແບ່ງ) is a small village in Laos, on the Mekong River about halfway between the Thai border at Huay Xai and Luang Prabang, Laos. Pakbeng is connected by a sealed road with Oudomxai along the Nam Beng River. Geography Pakbeng had its main road paved in 2005 and also just completed a hydroelectric station downriver thanks to a World Bank loan. Before then, the town was dependent on electrical generators for electricity. There is a small wat to be found in the hills not far from the village. It is an example of a Buddhist temple from the former Lan Na Kingdom. Many of the old temples had been destroyed during wars with the Thai Kingdom 300 years before. Muang Xai
Muang Xay ( lo, ເມືອງໄຊ), also referred to as Oudomxai or Oudomxay, is the capital city of Oudomxai Province, Laos. Naming Legend has it that in the year 1323, the inhabitants of the village Ban Luang Cheng in "Takka Sila" town were in the forest to cut bamboo. While they were making some bamboo fishing utensils, they saw a monk coming from the forest walking towards them. He had gone to the forest long before to meditate. The monk asked the villagers what they were doing and they replied that they were making a fishing basket. They offered him food.
