Halkomelem Language
Halkomelem (; in the Upriver dialect, in the Island dialect, and in the Downriver dialect) is a language of various First Nations peoples of the British Columbia Coast. It is spoken in what is now British Columbia, ranging from southeastern Vancouver Island from the west shore of Saanich Inlet northward beyond Gabriola Island and Nanaimo to Nanoose Bay and including the Lower Mainland from the Fraser River Delta upriver to Harrison Lake and the lower boundary of the Fraser Canyon. In the classification of Salishan languages, Halkomelem is a member of the Central Salish branch. There are four other branches of the family: Tsamosan, Interior Salish, Bella Coola, and Tillamook. Speakers of the Central and Tsamosan languages are often identified in ethnographic literature as "Coast Salish". Hur-ul-Nisa Begum
Hur-ul-Nisa (30 March 1613 – 5 June 1616) was a Mughal princess, the first daughter of Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan and his chief consort, Mumtaz Mahal. Life Born on 30 March 1613 at Akbarabad, she was named Hur al-Nisa Begum by her paternal grandfather, Emperor Jahangir who adopted her as his own daughter. She was the first of the fourteen children born to Prince Khurram and his wife, Arjumand Banu Begum. Her maternal grandfather was Asaf Khan IV, the Grand vizier during the reign of her father. She was deeply loved by Emperor Jahangir and his household. Death On 21 May 1616, Hur fell ill with smallpox and on 5 June, "''the bird of her spirit took wing from this eternal cage and flew to the gardens of Paradise."'' In Islamic religious belief, houris (Pronounced ; from ar, حُـورِيَّـة ,حُورِيّ, ḥūriyy, ḥūrīya), "literally means having eyes with marked contrast of black and white", group=Note are women with beautiful eyes described as a reward for the faithful Muslim believers in Paradise. Hur is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Calhoun County, West Virginia, Calhoun County, West Virginia, United States. Its post office has closed. Named after novel "Ben Hur." The village once had three stores and two grist mills. A crank'em up single wire phone company that served a large area that operated into the 1960s and the Mt. Hur (Bible)
Hur (also spelled Chur) ( he, חור) was a companion of Moses and Aaron in the Hebrew Bible. He was a member of the Tribe of Judah. His identity remains unclear in the Torah itself, but it is elaborated in rabbinical commentary. Other individuals named Hur are also mentioned in the Bible. Hur, companion of Moses In the Book of Exodus, Hur is first mentioned as a companion of Moses and Aaron watching the Battle of Rephidim against the Amalekites. He aided Aaron to hold up the hands of Moses when Moses realised that the Israelites prevailed in battle while his hands were raised: "Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side". Hurs
Hur ( ar, حر, ; meaning "free", "not slave" ) is a Sunni Sufi Muslim community in the province of Sindh, Pakistan. Their spiritual leader is Pir Pagaro who resisted British rule in Sindh. History of the Hur Movement During the period of colonial rule on the Indian subcontinent, Pir Pagaro declared his community "Hur" (free). The colonial government tried to suppress the movement and that resulted in an armed insurgency by Hurs. The Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 was recommended in Sindh upon disciples of Pir Pagaro in 1898 by Sardar Mohammad Yaqub during his days as Commissioner. This law was imposed on Sindh in 1900 by virtue of the actions of Pagaro's disciples. This law remained on the disciples throughout up to 1952. But during the 1941 to 1946 the colonial government passed many laws, one of them called "Hur Suppression Act" passed hastily by Sindh Assembly in May 1942, ultimately imposing martial law from June 1942 to the end of May 1943.
