Hsu Fu-kai
Henry Hsu (; born 17 September 1987) is a Taiwanese singer of Hokkien pop. Hsu albums include ''Most Loved'' (2011), ''Writing Your Song'' (2012), and ''Yicunzhenxin'' 'An Inch of True Heart''(2014). Hsu's subsequent Hokkien albums have been shortlisted for Golden Melody Awards. ''Mend the Dreams'' was nominated for the Golden Melody Award for Album of the Year and Best Taiwanese Album during the 2018 award ceremony, and Hsu himself received a nomination for Best Male Taiwanese Singer. Another of Hsu's Hokkien works, ''I Am Not As Happy As You Tonight'', garnered him a second nomination for Best Male Taiwanese Singer in the 2019 Golden Melody Award ceremony. Hokkien Pop
Hokkien pop, also known as Taiwanese Hokkien popular music, T-pop (), Tai-pop, Minnan Pop and Taiwanese song (), is a popular music genre sung in Taiwanese Hokkien and produced mainly in Taiwan. Hokkien pop is most popular amongst Hoklo people in Taiwan, Mainland China, and the Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia. Terminology The historical origin of Hokkien pop comes from a Japanese enka base instead of a Chinese shidaiqu base. Because it developed from traditional Japanese enka, it has become diverse in its varieties. History Origin Under Japanese rule (1895–1945), Taiwanese music continued and developed its new form from the previous period. Golden Melody Award
The Golden Melody Awards (), commonly abbreviated as GMA, is an honor awarded by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture to recognize outstanding achievement in the Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and Formosan-languages popular and traditional music industry. The GMAs are awarded on the basis of votes by members of jury, and it has constantly been recognized as the equivalent to the Grammy Awards in Chinese-speaking world. It shares recognition of the music industry as that of the other performance awards such as the Golden Bell Awards (television) and the Golden Horse Awards (motion pictures). The 1st Golden Melody Awards was held on January 6, 1990, to honor the popular music production by performers. Following the 1996 ceremony, the Ministry of Culture overhauled many Golden Melody Award categories for 1997.
