Hri Kumar
Hri Kumar Nair (born 16 June 1966) is a Singaporean lawyer and former politician who has been serving as Deputy Attorney-General of Singapore since 2017. A former member of the People's Action Party, he was the Member of Parliament representing the Thomson division of Bishan–Toa Payoh GRC between 2006 and 2015. Education Nair attended National Junior College before graduating from the National University of Singapore in 1991 with a Bachelor of Laws degree. Legal career Nair was called to the Singapore Bar in 1992. He joined Drew & Napier and became a director of the firm. He was appointed senior counsel in 2008. Nair was appointed as the deputy attorney-general (DAG) for a three-year term starting on 1 March 2017, followed by another three-year term extension commencing on 1 March 2020. Senior Counsel
The title of Senior Counsel or State Counsel (post-nominal letters: SC) is given to a senior lawyer in some countries that were formerly part of the British Empire. "Senior Counsel" is used in current or former Commonwealth countries or jurisdictions that have chosen to change the title "King's Counsel" to a name without monarchical connotations, usually related to the British monarch that is no longer head of state, such that reference to the King is no longer appropriate. Examples of jurisdictions which have made the change because of the latter reason include Mauritius, Zambia, India, Hong Kong, Ireland, South Africa, Kenya, Malawi, Singapore, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. 2017 Singaporean Presidential Election
The 2017 Singaporean presidential election was held to elect the next President of Singapore. Halimah Yacob was elected in an uncontested election due to lack of eligible candidates and she was the only candidate that was granted an eligibility certificate to contest in the 2017 presidential election, which was reserved for candidates from the Malay community, who had not held the presidency since 1970. Section 377A Of The Penal Code (Singapore)
Section 377A is a Singaporean law that criminalises sex between consenting adult males. It was introduced under British colonial rule in 1938 when added to the Penal Code by the colonial government. It remained part of the Singapore body of law after the Penal Code review of October 2007 that removed most of the other provisions in Section 377. On 29 November 2022, the Parliament of Singapore passed a bill to repeal Section 377A. The law, while retained ''de jure'' in the Penal Code, has for many years been ''de facto'' unenforced – there has been no convictions for sex between consenting male adults in decades. Chong Kee Hiong
Chong Kee Hiong ( zh, s=钟奇雄, poj=Cheng Kî-hiông, j=Zung1 Kei4 Hung4, p=Zhōng Qíxiǒng; born 1966) is a Singaporean politician and accountant who has been serving as Treasurer of the PAP Community Foundation since 2020. Halimah Yacob
Halimah Yacob (Jawi script: ; born 23 August 1954) is a Singaporean politician and former lawyer who has been serving as the eighth president of Singapore since 2017. Prior to her presidency, she was the country's Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, parliament speaker. She is also the first female president in Singapore's history. A miscarriage of justice occurs when a grossly unfair outcome occurs in a criminal or civil proceeding, such as the conviction and punishment of a person for a crime they did not commit. Miscarriages are also known as wrongful convictions. Innocent people have sometimes ended up in prison for years before their conviction has eventually been overturned. Gardens By The Bay Murder
Leslie Khoo Kwee Hock (; born ) is a criminal from Singapore who was convicted for the murder of his Chinese girlfriend Cui Yajie (), with whom he had an extra-marrital affair with. Khoo, who had previously been criminally convicted for cheating and forgery, argued with his girlfriend in a car on 12 July 2016; the argument turned violent and Khoo strangled Cui in a moment of anger. Later, Khoo took Cui's corpse to a forest in Lim Chu Kang where he burned the body for three days before he was arrested on 20 July 2016. Khoo was found guilty of murder three years after his arrest and sentenced to life imprisonment. His case was the second murder conviction without a body after the high-profile Sunny Ang trial in 1965. The Gardens by the Bay is a nature park spanning in the Central Region of Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. The park consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden (in Marina South), Bay East Garden (in Marina East) and Bay Central Garden (in Downtown Core and Kallang). The largest of the gardens is the Bay South Garden at designed by Grant Associates. Its Flower Dome is the largest glass greenhouse in the world.
