Ambroise-Louis-Marie D'Hozier
Ambroise-Louis-Marie d'Hozier (1764–1846), nephew of Louis-Pierre d'Hozier, was the last of the ''juges d'armes'' of France. He held the position of president of the ''cour des comptes, aides et finances'' of Normandy, and was therefore generally known as President d'Hozier, to distinguish him from the other members of the family. After the Bourbon Restoration he was employed to verify French armorial bearings for the ''conseil du sceau des titres''. He died in obscurity. Charles-René D'Hozier
Charles-René d'Hozier (24 February 1640 – 13 February 1732) was a French historical commentator. The younger son of Pierre d'Hozier, he was the true successor of his father. In addition to his commentary appended to Antoine Varillas's history of King Charles IX (1686 ed.), he published ''Recherches sur la noblesse de Champagne'' (1673). On the promulgation in 1696 of an edict directing all who had armorial bearings to register them on payment of 20 livres, he was employed to collect the declarations returned in the various ''généralités'', and established the ''Armorial général de France''. This work, which contained not only the armorial bearings of noble families, but also of those commoners who were entitled to bear arms, is not complete, inasmuch as many refused to register their arms, either from vanity or from a desire to evade the fee. Henry Montague Hozier
Sir Henry Montague Hozier (20 March 1838 – 28 February 1907) was a British Army officer who became secretary of Lloyd's of London. Biography The third son of James C. Hozier of Newlands and Mauldslie Castle, Lanarkshire, Hozier was educated at Rugby School, Edinburgh Academy and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was successively lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, lieutenant in the 2nd Life Guards and captain in the 3rd Dragoon Guards, and passed first into and out of the Staff College, Camberley. He served with the Royal Artillery in the expedition to Peking, with the German Army in the War of 1866, as assistant military secretary to Sir Robert Napier in the Abyssinian expedition, and as assistant military attaché during the Franco-Prussian War. He was awarded the Iron Cross for his service in the latter conflict, made a Companion of the Bath in 1897, and a Knight Commander of the Bath in 1903. Louis Pierre d'Hozier (20 November 1685 – 25 September 1767) was a French nobleman and genealogist and the fourth holder of the post of . He was born and died in Paris. The grandson of Pierre d'Hozier and nephew of Charles René d'Hozier, he collaborated with his youngest son Antoine Marie d'Hozier to produce the 10-volume ''l'Armorial de France'' (1738-1768), covering most of the French noble families of the time. Pierre d'Hozier, seigneur de la Garde (July 10, 1592 – December 1, 1660), was a French genealogist. Life He was born in Marseille. He belonged to the household of the Marshal de Créqui and gave him aid in his genealogical investigations. In 1616 he entered upon some extensive researches into the genealogy of the noble families of the kingdom, in which work he was aided by his prodigious memory for dates, names and family relationships, as well as by his profound knowledge of heraldry. William Wallace Hozier, 1st Baron Newlands (24 February 1825 – 30 January 1906), known as Sir William Hozier, Bt, between 1890 and 1898, was a Scottish soldier and businessman. Background Hozier was the son of James Hozier, of Mauldslie Castle and Newlands, Lanarkshire, and Catherine Margaret, daughter of Sir William Feilden, 1st Baronet. Baron Newlands, of Newlands and Barrofield in the County of the City of Glasgow and of Mauldslie Castle in the County of Lanark, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 19 January 1898 for the soldier Sir William Hozier, 1st Baronet. He had already been created a baronet in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom in 1890.
