Hoxha () is an Albanian surname, derived from the Persian title ''khawaja'' ("master") via Turkish ''hoca''. It is the most common surname in Albania. Khawaja (Persian language, Persian: خواجه ''khvâjəh'') is an honorific title used across the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Central Asia, particularly towards Sufi teachers. It is also used by Kashmiri Muslims and the Mizrahi Jews—particularly Persian Jews and Baghdadi Jews. The word comes from the Iranian word ''khwāja'' (Classical Persian: ''khwāja''; Dari language, Dari ''khājah''; Tajik language, Tajik ''khoja''). Sidni Hoxha (born 6 January 1992, in Shkoder) is an Albanian swimmer who participated for the first time in the 2008 Olympic Games in the 50 m freestyle at the age of 16 years. Sulejman Hoxha (born 13 February 1990) is an Albanian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Career A product of the Dinamo Tirana academy, Hoxha was loaned out to Albanian First Division side KF Erzeni Shijak for the 2007–08 season in order to gain first team experience for the first time. During his loan spell he made 20 league appearances but did not manage to help the club survive relegation as they failed to be beat the drop by a single point. In June 2008 he had an unsuccessful trial with German club 1860 Munich, before returning to his parent club Dinamo Tirana and joining the first team there for the first time. Yll Hoxha (born 26 December 1987) is a Kosovar professional footballer who plays for KF Feronikeli in the Superleague of Kosovo and for Kosovo national team as a midfielder. Alban Bekim Hoxha (; born 23 November 1987) is an Albanian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Albanian club Partizani and the Albania national team. Club career Dinamo Tirana Hoxha started youth football at age of 6 and was raised through the ranks at his hometown team Turbina before joining the youth team of Dinamo Tirana in 2004.
