Howells is a village in Colfax County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 561 at the 2010 census. History Howells was platted in 1886 when the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad was extended to that point. It was named for James Smith Howell, a local resident. The Howells post office, established in 1886, was spelled as Howell (without the S) until 1937. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. Howells is in northern Colfax County in east-central Nebraska, three miles east of the junction of highways 15 and 91. Wallkill is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 30,486 at the 2020 census. It is centrally located in the county. Interstate 84 crosses New York State Route 17 in the southern part of the town. U.S. Route 6 and New York State routes 17K, 211 and 302 also cross portions of the town. History The original land patent for the town was dated 1724, but little was done for decades to develop and settle the region. The town was established in 1772, but part of the town was lost upon the formation of Ulster County. Howells (department Store)
Howells is a large department store located on St Mary Street in Cardiff, Wales. The store was established in Cardiff by James Howell in 1865. It was acquired by the House of Fraser group in 1972 and re-branded as House of Fraser in 2010. History James Howell was the son of a Pembrokeshire farmer. On 21 October 1865 he opened a shop in The Hayes, Cardiff, in a building called Stuart Hall. In August 1867 the drapery shop moved to St Mary Street. By 1892 he had a shop which extended from Trinity Street in the east, to St Mary Street in the west. The first part of the current store was built in the late-19th century, this part of the building includes an ornate facade that is visible on St Mary Street. In the 1920s a large and well-proportioned neoclassical extension was built up to the corner of St Mary Street and Heol-y-Cawl. Howells & Stokes was an American architectural firm founded in 1897 by John Mead Howells and Isaac Newton Phelps Stokes. The firm dissolved in 1917. Howells & Stokes designed, among other structures, St. Paul's Chapel at Columbia University; Woodbridge Hall, part of the Hewitt Quadrangle on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut; the Engineering Quadrangle at Pratt Institute; and office buildings in New York City, Seattle, San Francisco, and Providence, Rhode Island. Howell's School Denbigh ( Welsh: ''Ysgol Howell Dinbych'') was an independent girls only school located in Denbigh, Denbighshire. The school taught girls from the age of 3 up to 18 and contained a pre-preparatory , preparatory, senior and sixth form. It was established in 1859 with funding from Thomas Howell's trustees who later established Howell's School Llandaff in 1860. The school had many facilities including a sports hall, 120 acres of grounds and an equestrian centre. Denbigh (; cy, Dinbych; ) is a market town and a community in Denbighshire, Wales. Formerly, the county town, the Welsh name translates to "Little Fortress"; a reference to its historic castle.
