Howard And Bullough F.C.
The Howard and Bullough Football Club (also known as Howard & Bullough) was an early twentieth century U.S. soccer team which was based out of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. It won the 1911 American Cup. History The team began play in late 1899. In 1903 they joined the Amateur Shop Association Football League. By 1912 the team had won the New England cup tie competition four times, the Rhode Island cup three times and the American cup once. They went to the semifinals of the American Cup in 1908. In October 1909, the Howard and Bullough were part of the newly formed Eastern Soccer League. The collapsed with less than half of its games played. At that time, Howard and Bullough was in second place with a 3–1–1 record. Howard and Bullough took the AFA title in 1911 when they defeated the Philadelphia Hibernian in the 1911 American Cup final. The American Cup (also known as the American Football Association Cup and the American Federation Cup) was the first major U.S. soccer competition open to teams beyond a single league. It was first held in 1885. In the 1910s, it gradually declined in importance with the establishment of the National Challenge Cup. It was last held in 1924. Philadelphia Hibernian, also known as Hibernian F.C., was an early twentieth century U.S. soccer team which played in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. History According to Dave Litterer, “Philadelphia Hibernian was a perennial powerhouse in the Philadelphia leagues” when it entered the newly established Eastern Soccer League in 1909. Hibernian finished fourth with a 1-3-1 record. The league collapsed in 1910. In 1911, Hibernian won the Pennsylvania Soccer League title. They spent the 1914-1915 season in the American League of Philadelphia, going to the championship game where they lost 6-1 to Bethlehem Steel. They continued to play in the ALP in 1915-1916.
