How To Speak Hip
''How to Speak Hip'' is a comedy album by Del Close and John Brent, released by Mercury Records in 1959. Description The album is designed as a satire of language-learning records, where the secret language of the ' hipster' is treated as a foreign language. Part of the joke, however, is that it actually does a good job of describing the Beat Generation/Beatnik sub-culture: Basic concepts such as "cool" and "uncool" are taught, as well as vocabulary building ("dig", "dig it", "dig yourself, baby", "dig the chick", "dig the cat", "What a drag!"). Many of the phrases and expressions survived to become elements of the counterculture vocabulary. Social notes are presented as for many language courses, and later in the album, the teacher (Close) is taken on field trips into the secret life of the hipster (Brent). However, the hipster rebels against participating in the teaching tool, leading to a humorously compromised teaching style. Track 12 contains an excerpt of 'We Free K ...

Ninja Tune
Ninja Tune is an English independent record label based in London. It has a satellite office in Los Angeles. It was founded by Matt Black and Jonathan More (better known as Coldcut) and managed by Peter Quicke and others. Inspired by a visit to Japan, Black and More created Ninja Tune in 1990 as a means to escape the creative control of major labels, and as a vehicle to release music of an underground nature, free from the constraints they experienced in their brief stints with Arista and Big Life. The label has been called "visionary" and "reliably excellent". It has signed a diverse range of artists, has created its own publishing company, Just Isn't Music, and finds innovative uses of software. The label's first releases — the first five volumes of DJ Food's ''Jazz Brakes'' — were produced by Coldcut in the early 1990s, and were celebrated by the music press and beat aficionados. They were composed of instrumental sample-based cuts that led the duo to help pioneer new ...

DJ Food
DJ Food is an electronic music project currently headed by Kevin Foakes (also known as "Strictly Kev"). Originally conceived by the members of Coldcut on the Ninja Tune independent record label, the project started in 1990 on the premise of providing metaphorical "food for DJs". DJ Food released the Jazz Brakes series, with ''Jazz Brakes Volume 3'' being the most successful. The records consisted of collections of breaks, loops and samples that could be used for mixing, remixing and producing. The later DJ Food albums have developed with shades of Latin, dub, breakbeat, ambient, and drum and bass. The 1995 album ''A Recipe for Disaster'' was a conscious move away from the Jazz Brakes volumes to form more of an identity as an artist, and a remix album of tracks from all six LPs, entitled ''Refried Food'' was released the following year. The more recent release, ''Kaleidoscope'' (2000), featured guest artists including Bundy K. Brown (formerly of Tortoise, Directions ...

Get Scraped
''Get Scraped'' is the debut studio album by Canadian electronic music producer Deadmau5, released on July 26, 2005, by the independent record label Zoolook. Background The track title "Bored of Canada" presumably refers to Boards of Canada, a Scottish downtempo and IDM act whom Zimmerman has pointed to as one of his influences. The track itself is a short, interlude-like track that is reminiscent of the Boards of Canada signature. The track is followed by nearly one minute of silence, and then a few seconds of the track repeating from the beginning again. This is believed to be an error, since a version without the silence can be found on other releases such as '' Project 56''. The track "Intelstat" contains vocal samples of the song "M01 Chant I – Making of Cyborg" by Kenji Kawai from the ''Ghost in the Shell'' soundtrack. Release The album has a 2005 demo CD release, which Zimmerman claimed to have been limited to "about 100 copies". Several copies of the demo have ...

Loop Guru
Loop Guru is a worldbeat group consisting of bassist/guitarist Salman Gita (born Sam Dodson) and programmer Jamuud (born David Muddyman). They first met around 1980 and initially played together in The Transmitters and released their debut single as Loop Guru, "Shrine", in 1992. The band's music is a melange of Asian and Western music, infusing Western dance beats with the rich textures and sounds of Indonesian gamelan and traditional Indian music. Heavy emphasis is placed on electronic samples of traditional instruments, voices, and miscellaneous sounds. Loop Guru's main exuberant oeuvre of lively rhythms and effusive sounds is occasionally punctuated by more contemplative albums (e.g., ''The Third Chamber'') that are reminiscent and influenced by ambient music and similar to musical artists such as Brian Eno and Jon Hassell.
