Hovhannes Hintliyan
Hovhannes Hintliyan ( hy, Յովհաննէս Հինդլիեան, Üsküdar, Ottoman Empire, 1866 – Istanbul, March 16, 1950) was an Armenian teacher, pedagogue, publisher, and educator. He was the founder of Nor Tbrots (New School), a prestigious Armenian school in the Pangalti district of Istanbul. Biography Hovhannes Hintliyan was born in 1866 in Üsküdar, a district of Istanbul that is situated on the Asiatic side of the Bosphorus. He attended the prestigious Berberian Varjaran (High School) and studied under his mentor Reteos Berberian (Who was the founder and principal of the school as well). Upon gaining an outstanding reputation at school, he eventually taught at Makrouhian Varjaran in the Beşiktaş district and eventually became the principal of the school. He then taught and at times became principal of the following schools: Surp Haç Tbrevank, Tbrotsaser, Aramyan, Dadyan, and Getronagan. Maria Tecla Artemisia Montessori ( , ; August 31, 1870 – May 6, 1952) was an Italian physician and educator best known for the philosophy of education that bears her name, and her writing on scientific pedagogy. At an early age, Montessori enrolled in classes at an all-boys technical school, with hopes of becoming an engineer. She soon had a change of heart and began medical school at the Sapienza University of Rome, becoming one of the first women to attend medical school in Italy; she graduated with honors in 1896.
