Hovea, Western Australia
Hovea is a suburb in the Shire of Mundaring in Perth, Western Australia. It is centred on Jane Brook and encompasses the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail (formerly the Eastern Railway) and John Forrest National Park. Hovea extends as far north as Toodyay Road, and south to Glen Forrest and Great Eastern Highway. Its western boundary is also the western boundary of the park. Hovea (named for a native Australian flowering plant) was originally named Park View, but the name was changed in 1912 to avoid confusion between Park View, Swan View, National Park and Bellevue, all nearby railway stations. Perth
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is the fourth most populous city in Australia and Oceania, with a population of 2.1 million (80% of the state) living in Greater Perth in 2020. Railway Reserve Heritage Trail
The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail also on some maps as ''Rail Reserve Heritage Trail'' or ''Rail Reserves Historical Trail'', and frequently referred to locally as the ''Bridle Trail'' or ''Bridle Track'' is within the Shire of Mundaring in Western Australia. Names and sections The trail comprises a loop between Bellevue and Mount Helena, and a line from Mount Helena to Wooroloo. The loop, called ''Trail Loop'', is in length, and follows the two Eastern Railway routes travelling east from Bellevue and meeting up again in Mount Helena, thus forming a loop. The southern route, which traverses Mundaring, is the ''First Route'', opened in 1884. Bellevue, Western Australia
Bellevue is an eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the local government areas of the City of Swan and the Shire of Mundaring. It is at the foot of the slopes of Greenmount, a landmark on the Darling Scarp that is noted in the earliest of travel journals of the early Swan River Colony. Community Bellevue has been bisected by the Roe Highway, railway, and substantial changes in the eastern parts of Midland. The Bellevue Primary School was closed and amalgamated with the Koongamia Primary School to form the new Clayton View Primary School slightly up the hill towards Greenmount. It was the location of the original offices of what became the Mundaring Shire Council. It was also the location of the Catholic Church that preceded the St Anthony's church in Greenmount. ''Hovea'' is a genus of about forty species of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae, and is endemic to Australia. Plants in this genus are sub-shrubs, shrubs or small trees with simple leaves and purple, blue or mauve flowers with a white centre. The fruit is a pod containing brown to blackish seeds. Great Eastern Highway
Great Eastern Highway is a road that links the Western Australian capital of Perth with the city of Kalgoorlie. A key route for road vehicles accessing the eastern Wheatbelt and the Goldfields, it is the western portion of the main road link between Perth and the eastern states of Australia. The highway forms the majority of National Highway 94, although the alignment through the Perth suburbs of Guildford and Midland, and the eastern section between Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie are not included. John Forrest National Park
John Forrest National Park is a national park in the Darling Scarp, east of Perth, Western Australia. Proclaimed as a national park in November 1900, it was the first national park in Western Australia and the second in Australia after Royal National Park. Name As early as 1898, the land was reserved for conservation and recreation. Two years later, it was named ''Greenmount National Park''. It was still being identified as ''National Park'' in the late 1930s, and it was not until 1947 that the name change occurred to commemorate Sir John Forrest, the first Premier of Western Australia. Eastern Railway (Western Australia)
The Eastern Railway is the main railway route between Fremantle and Northam in Western Australia. It opened in stages between 1881 and 1893. The line continues east to Kalgoorlie as the Eastern Goldfields Railway. Initial section The first sod of the Fremantle-Guildford Railway was turned by Governor Ord at Guildford on 3 June 1879. The event coincided with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of settlement of Western Australia. History The division was proclaimed at a redistribution of Western Australia's electoral divisions on 20 November 2000, and first contested at the 2001 federal election.
