Hove Greyhound Stadium
Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium is a greyhound racing track located in the Hove Park area of the city of Brighton and Hove, East Sussex. The stadium also has a restaurant and a number of bars and is owned by the Gala Coral Group and race meetings are held every Thursday and Saturday evening, in addition to three afternoon meetings. 1961 English Greyhound Derby
The 1961 Greyhound Derby took place during June with the final being held on 24 June 1961 at White City Stadium. The winner Palms Printer received £2,000 and was trained by Paddy McEvoy and owned by Alf Heale. Competition Report The Racing Manager selected 36 greyhounds leaving 12 remaining places. They would be gained from three afternoon trial sessions and eight qualifying heats to determine the 12 final places. Qualifiers included Winter Bell and Clopook, the latter trained by 28 year old Ernie Gaskin (much later known as Gaskin Sr.) Gaskin was a new trainer only being granted his licence two months before the Derby started. The ante-post favourites list was headed by Oregon Prince (8-1) and Spider Hill (10-1). The Trainers' Championship currently rebranded as the Trainers' Judgement Night is a competition for the leading greyhound trainers in the United Kingdom. History The competition was inaugurated in 1977 at (Brough Park) and is contested by the six leading trainers based on points gained from open race success from the previous year. The competition should not be confused with the Greyhound Trainer of the Year which is awarded to the trainer who achieves the most points for winning open races on the Greyhound Board of Great Britain annual racing calendar. Sports Information Services (SIS) is a company which provides content and production services to the betting industry; such as horse racing and greyhound racing, to betting shops in the United Kingdom and Ireland and other worldwide destinations. Previously, they provided news gathering services and specialised broadcast solutions to clients beyond betting industry. Brian Adrian Clemenson (born 1963) is a retired English greyhound trainer. He is a three times United Kingdom champion Champion Trainer. Profile Clemenson was a head man for Kenny Linzell before taking out a trainer's licence. He raced out of Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium which he joined after a spell at Hackney Wick Stadium. He was initially based at Bersheda Kennels in Wickford but a decade later moved to the Romford Greyhound Kennels in Billingshurst. He came to prominence in the early 1990s and after reaching multiple finals finally won a feature competition in 1999 when he won the Pall Mall Stakes. He reached the final of the 1998 English Greyhound Derby with Tullerboy Cash before steering two runners into the 2002 English Greyhound Derby and finishing runner-up in the 2004 English Greyhound Derby. Ballyregan Bob (12 May 1983 to 3 April 1994) was a racing greyhound who, along with Mick the Miller and Scurlogue Champ, is one of the most revered racing hounds in British greyhound racing. Ballyregan Bob was a brindle dog and was whelped in May 1983. Trained by George Curtis he would become world famous for breaking the world record for consecutive race wins. Racing career In 1985 Ballyregan Bob won three major events, the Olympic at home track Brighton, the Test at Walthamstow and the Essex Vase at Romford. Whilst winning these events he remained unbeaten and was on his way to setting the world record. He also qualified for the final of the classic race the St Leger at Wembley but was a non runner in the final. Romford Greyhound Stadium, referred to as Coral Romford Greyhound Stadium is a Greyhound racing in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing track located in Romford town centre in the London Borough of Havering in east London which is owned and operated by the Ladbrokes Coral group. Brighton Belle
The ''Brighton Belle'' was a named train which was operated by the Southern Railway and subsequently by British Rail from Victoria Station in London to Brighton, on the Sussex coast. Commissioned as the flagship of the Southern Railway's mass electrification project, which commenced in January 1931, the world's only electric all- Pullman service ran daily between London Victoria and Brighton from 1 January 1933 until 30 April 1972.
