Houston Christian Huskies Men's Basketball
The Houston Christian Huskies men's basketball team, known as the Houston Baptist Huskies until 2022, represents Houston Christian University in Houston, Texas, in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The team is coached by Ron Cottrell. The Huskies competed as members of the Trans America Athletic Conference from 1978 to 1989. After their departure from the TAAC, the Huskies went on a two year hiatus before returning to the NAIA. HBU competed in the NAIA from 1991–2008. They returned to NCAA Division I for the 2008–2009 season, where they were initially an independent, followed by membership in the Great West Conference from 2009 through 2013. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University, is a private Baptist university in Houston, Texas. Gene Iba
Clarence Eugene Iba (born November 5, 1940) is a former American college basketball coach. He was previously the Pittsburg State Gorillas men's basketball coach until 2010. He was head coach at Houston Baptist from 1977 to 1985, Baylor from 1985 to 1992, and Pittsburg State from 1995 to 2010. He is the son of college basketball coach Clarence Iba and nephew of college basketball coach Hank Iba. Early life and education Born in Joplin, Missouri, Clarence Eugene Iba attended the University of Tulsa, where he played basketball from 1958 to 1961 under his father, head coach Clarence Victor Iba. After graduating in 1963, Gene Iba went to the Navy Supply Corps School and coached its basketball team. The 2007 Buffalo Funds - NAIA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament was held from March 14 to 20 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. This was the 70th annual NAIA basketball tournament and features 32 teams playing in a single-elimination format. This tournament had the most total points scored for both teams in one game in the history of the NAIA tournament. Totaling 243pts when Concordia (CA) got 124pts and beat Robert Morris (IL) who has 119pts. That game went into 4 overtimes. (The longest game was a 5OT game back in 1978 when Grand Canyon beat Central State (OH) 88-82.) Concordia would go on to be the 2007 runner-up to Oklahoma City University.
