Houston (album)
__NOTOC__ ''Houston'' is a 1965 studio album by Dean Martin, produced by Jimmy Bowen. ''Houston'' peaked at 11 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The title track, written by Lee Hazlewood, had appeared in the Top 40 in the summer of 1965. The album was reissued on CD by Hip-O Records in 2009. Reception William Ruhlmann, on Allmusic.com, gave the album three stars out of five, commenting that in the choice of songs and arrangements on the album, producer Jimmy Bowen was "...shrewdly expanding Martin's contemporary base beyond the formula records he had made in the wake of "Everybody Loves Somebody," and doing it successfully." Ruhlmann said that the chart performance of ''Houston'' showed that Martin's comeback "...was being sustained, not diminishing", albeit helped by promotion on Martin's successful new television show. Dean Martin
Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti; June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995) was an American singer, actor and comedian. One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century, Martin was nicknamed "The King of Cool". Martin gained his career breakthrough together with comedian Jerry Lewis, billed as Martin and Lewis, in 1946. They performed in nightclubs and later had numerous appearances on radio, television and in films. Following an acrimonious ending of the partnership in 1956, Martin pursued a solo career as a performer and actor. Martin established himself as a singer, recording numerous contemporary songs as well as standards from the Great American Songbook. He became one of the most popular acts in Las Vegas and was known for his friendship with fellow artists Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., who together with several others formed the Rat Pack. Tommy Boyce
Sidney Thomas "Tommy" Boyce (September 29, 1939 – November 23, 1994) and Bobby Hart (born Robert Luke Harshman; February 18, 1939) were a prolific American duo of singer-songwriters. In addition to three top-40 hits as artists, the duo is well known for its songwriting for The Monkees. Early years Hart's father was a church minister and he himself served in the Army after leaving high school. Upon discharge, he travelled to Los Angeles seeking a career as a singer. Boyce was separately pursuing a career as a songwriter. After being rejected numerous times, Boyce took his father's suggestion to write a song called " Be My Guest" for rock and roll star Fats Domino. He waited six hours at Domino's hotel room to present him with the demo, and got Domino to promise to listen to the song. Ed Thrasher
Edward Lee Thrasher Jr. (March 7, 1932 – August 5, 2006), known as Ed Thrasher, was an American art director and photographer. He was the recipient of numerous Grammy Award nominations for his work on album covers and won a Grammy for Best Album Package in 1974 for the Mason Proffit cover ''Come & Gone''. He worked with many recording artists, such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the Beach Boys. He was born in Glendale, California, to a Los Angeles city councilman. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and in 1957 began working at Capitol Records as an assistant, later becoming art director and photographer. In 1964, he joined Warner Bros. Records, where he designed a number of album covers, including the Jimi Hendrix Experience's ''Are You Experienced'', Van Morrison's ''Astral Weeks'', the Grateful Dead's ''Anthem of the Sun'' and the Doobie Brothers' ''Toulouse Street''. Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. William Everett Justis Jr. (October 14, 1926 – July 16, 1982) was an American pioneer rock and roll musician, composer, and arrangement, musical arranger, best known for his 1957 Grammy Hall of Fame song, "Raunchy (instrumental), Raunchy". As a songwriter, he was also often credited as Bill Everette. Biography Justis was born in Birmingham, Alabama, United States, but grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and studied music at Christian Brothers High School (Memphis, Tennessee), Christian Brothers College (high school department) and Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. A trumpet and saxophone player, while in university he performed with local jazz and dance bands. John Cassell (Jack) Morrow (26 February 1872 – 11 January 1926) was a political cartoonist, illustrator and landscape painter. John Cassell Morrow was born in Belfast in 1872. He was the son of George Morrow, a painter and decorator from Hanover House, Clifton Street, in west Belfast. All but one of his seven brothers were working artists. "Detour (There's a Muddy Road Ahead)" is a Western swing ballad written by Paul Westmoreland in 1945. The original version was by Jimmy Walker with Paul Westmoreland and His Pecos River Boys, issued around the beginning of November 1945.
