House Of Assembly Channel
The House of Assembly Channel is a cable television channel broadcast throughout much of Newfoundland and Labrador, exclusively on cable. The channel first signed on the air on November 17, 2001. Programming The House of Assembly Channel broadcasts daily legislative proceedings from Newfoundland and Labrador whenever the House is sitting, as well as Saturday night Memorial University of Newfoundland Sea-Hawks men's and women's basketball home games, and any special programming produced by Memorial University of Newfoundland or Rogers TV and EastLink Television. First broadcast Because the fall sitting of the House of Assembly did not take place until November 19, the first program to be broadcast was on November 17 when the Memorial University Sea-Hawks basketball teams played their first home game of the season against the Dalhousie Tigers. Aspen Cove is a small fishing community in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Formerly called Aspey or Apsey Cove, Aspen Cove was named for the presence of aspen trees in the area. It first appears in the 1857 ''Census'' as Apsey Cove with a population of thirteen, all dependent on the salmon fishery. By the 1870s more families moved to Aspen Cove for the cod and lobster fisheries. Arnold's Cove ( 2016 Population 949) is a town on Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is in Division 1 on Placentia Bay. The name is found in population returns of 1836, and may have been given after the forename of a fisherman. In 1864 there was one family, and by 1893 there was a post office. It was a fishing settlement located approximately two kilometers from the Newfoundland Railway, located 35 miles from Placentia Junction. Argentia ( ) is a Canadian commercial seaport and industrial park located in the Town of Placentia, Newfoundland and Labrador. It is situated on the southwest coast of the Avalon Peninsula and defined by a triangular shaped headland which reaches northward out into Placentia Bay creating a natural harbour in length. Originally settled by the French in the 1630s that fishing settlement was called Petit Plaisance, meaning "Pleasant Little Place". The name was retained in English (Little Placentia) when the French lost control of the area following the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. The census of 1706 records 149 individuals in 14 habitations. The community adopted its present name (unofficially in 1895 and officially in 1901) for the presence of silver ore near Broad Cove Point on the east side of the harbour. Aquaforte, Newfoundland And Labrador
Aquaforte is a town on the south shore of Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town's economy has always rested primarily on fishing. The harbour has been used as a seasonal fishing station since the 1670s. British and French hostilities played out in harbors all along the Avalon Peninsula in the 18th century, and Aquaforte was no exception. However, the first permanent residents did not settle in Aquaforte until the early 1800s. It is located from Ferryland and from St. John's by water. It has one of the safest harbors in the island and cod was its main industry. In 1902 a resident from Norway, Anders Ellefsen, constructed a factory to process whales in the community. Anchor Point ( 2021 Population 305) is a town located in St. Barbe Bay, south of Flower's Cove on the west side of the Great Northern Peninsula, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It was the first English settlement on what is called the 'French Shore' of Newfoundland. History Anchor Point was first settled by Robert Bartlett, a British seaman, and his nephew Robert Genge, both from Yeovil, Somerset, England in 1740. They used the cove as a base for fishing and fur hunting from Anchor Point to Bartlett's Harbour in the late 18th century. Robert Bartlett eventually returned to England while Robert Genge was joined by his brother Abram, who employed men from England seasonally to sell his furs and fish to American vessels. Port au Port West-Aguathuna-Felix Cove is a small town located on the Port au Port Peninsula of the Island of Newfoundland, Canada. The nearest large service area is Stephenville. The town was created in 1970 by amalgamating the small villages of Port au Port West, Aguathuna and Felix Cove. Its post office began on September 11, 1964. The first Post Mistress was Reisa Gabriel. Aguathuna The area grew from workers at the nearby limestone mine site at Jack of Clubs Cove. The Dominion Iron and Steel Company opened a quarry there in 1911. Admirals Beach is a rural community located in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Previously spelled Admiral's Beach, it is a fishing port located on the island of Newfoundland; specifically it is along a point of land in the southern Avalon Peninsula near Great Colinet Island fronting St. Mary's Bay.
