''House Arrest'' is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Ariel Pink, under Pink's "Haunted Graffiti" musical project. It is the fifth album in the eponymous series of albums, as subtitled. It was self-released in September 2002 under the imprint, Demonstration Bootleg, as a double CD set with his follow-up album, '' Lover Boy''. On January 24, 2006, the album was reissued by Paw Tracks Paw Tracks (formerly known as Soccer Stars until 2000, then Animal until 2003) was an independent record label based in Washington, D.C. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
Ariel Marcus Rosenberg ( ; born June 24, 1978), professionally known as Ariel Pink, is an American musician, singer, and songwriter whose work draws heavily from the popular music of the 1960s–1980s. His lo-fi aesthetic and home-recorded albums proved influential to many indie musicians starting in the late 2000s. He is frequently cited as "godfather" of the hypnagogic pop and chillwave movements, and he is credited with galvanizing a larger trend involving the evocation of the media, sounds, and outmoded technologies of prior decades, as well as an equal appreciation for high and low art in independent music. A native of Los Angeles, Pink began experimenting with recording songs on an eight-track Portastudio as a teenager. His early influences were artists such as Michael Jackson, the Cure, and R. Hypnagogic Pop
Hypnagogic pop (often abbreviated as h-pop) is pop or psychedelic music that evokes cultural memory and nostalgia for the popular entertainment of the past (principally the 1980s). It emerged in the mid to late 2000s as American lo-fi and noise musicians began adopting retro aesthetics remembered from their childhood, such as radio rock, new wave pop, light rock, video game music, synth-pop, and R&B. Recordings circulated on cassette or Internet blogs and were typically marked by the use of outmoded analog equipment and DIY experimentation. The genre's name was coined by journalist David Keenan in an August 2009 issue of ''The Wire'' to label the developing trend, which he characterized as "pop music refracted through the memory of a memory." ''Scared Famous'' / ''Fast Forward'' are the third and fourth albums by American recording artist Ariel Pink (credited as "Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti"). They were originally released on cassette as a double album by Ariel in 2001. A compilation album of the material from both albums was subsequently released by Human Ear Music in 2007. It consisted of only 17 tracks selected from the original cassettes. Some of the tracks from the original ''Scared Famous'' / ''Fast Forward'' release later appeared on the 2008 compilation '' Odditties Sodomies Vol. 1'', and select tracks from were rerecorded for Pink's later albums; "Beverly Kills" on ''Before Today'' (2010) and "I Wanna Be Young" on '' Dedicated to Bobby Jameson'' (2017). In 2021, the albums were reissued by Mexican Summer as one unified release with improved sound quality. ''Lover Boy'' is the sixth studio album by the American recording artist Ariel Pink, under the artist's "Haunted Graffiti" musical project. It is the sixth release in the eponymous series of works. The album was originally released in 2002 through Ballbearings Pinatas and CD Baby as part of a double-CD set with his previous release, ''House Arrest.'' In March 2006, the album was reissued as a single album on CD-R. The reissue includes a slightly different set of tracks from the original album, cutting "credit" and "one on one" from the line-up and adding the live song, "You Are My Angel". Paw Tracks (formerly known as Soccer Stars until 2000, then Animal until 2003) was an independent record label based in Washington, D.C. At first only records by Animal Collective were released on the label, but since 2004 it has also released records by other artists; the first was ''The Doldrums'' by Ariel Pink in October 2004. Although originally exclusively run by the members of Animal Collective, Paw Tracks is now co-owned by members of Carpark Records. Hypnagogic Pop Albums
Hypnagogia is the experience of the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep: the ''hypnagogic'' state of consciousness, during the onset of sleep. Its opposite state is described as the transitional state from sleep into wakefulness. Mental phenomena that may occur during this "threshold consciousness" phase include hypnagogic hallucinations, lucid thought, exploding head syndrome, lucid dreaming, and sleep paralysis. The latter two phenomena are themselves separate sleep conditions that are sometimes experienced during the hypnagogic state.
