"(There'll Be a) Hot Time in the Town of Berlin (When the Yanks Go Marching In)" is a 1943 song with music and lyrics by Joe Bushkin and John DeVries, published by Barton Music Corp. The cover illustration for the sheet music was designed by Albert Barbelle and features Uncle Sam's arm and hand painting over the word 'Berlin' in the title with red paint. Recordings The song was originally recorded by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters on June 30, 1944 and reached number one on the top 100 U.S. songs of 1944. Joe Bushkin (November 7, 1916 – November 3, 2004) was an American jazz pianist. Life and career Born in New York City, Bushkin began his career by playing trumpet and piano with New York City dance bands, including Frank LaMare's Band at the Roseland Ballroom in Brooklyn. John DeVries
John DeVries (December 2, 1915 – April 17, 1992) was an American lyricist, interior designer and illustrator. He was born in Wayne, Pennsylvania in 1915. Collaborating with the pianist Joe Bushkin, he wrote the lyrics for many songs, the most famous being "Oh! Look at Me Now", a hit for Frank Sinatra in 1941. Albert Wilfred Barbelle (1887–1957) was an American artist known well for his work in advertising, particularly cover art for sheet music of Tin Pan Alley. He also illustrated the first Mickey Mouse book. Early life Albert Wilfred Barbelle was born on February 15, 1887, in Fall River, Massachusetts, to Wilfred and Marie Barbelle.
