Hot Sun Films
HOT SUN FILMS, is a film/video production and training company based in East Africa. It was founded by Nathan Collett. Hot Sun Films' work focuses on bring out a realistic, challenging and positive image of those on the very margins of society. It works to develop and expose the talents and possibilities of the youth of the urban slums of Africa. One of its projects is the non - profit organization Hot Sun Foundation. Hot Sun Films' most noted film project to date is Kibera Kid. It has also produced The Oath. In April 2009, Hot Sun Films' first feature film was shot. The feature film is entitled Togetherness Supreme, working title, the film focuses on tribal tension and the possibility of reconciliation in Kibera, East Africa's largest slum. As of June 2009, Togetherness Supreme is being edited using trainees from Kibera through Hot Sun Foundation. Kibera Kid
''Kibera Kid'' is a short film set in the Kibera slums in Nairobi, Kenya. It was written, directed and co-produced by Nathan Collett in collaboration with the locals of Kibera. This twelve-minute film featured Kibera actors in the principal roles. It has played at film festivals worldwide including the Berlin Film Festival and it won a Student EMMY from Cinema of the United States, Hollywood. It has been profiled by the BBC, Reuters and Al Jazeera English. In April 2009, a feature film follow up to Kibera Kid was shot. The full length film focuses on tribal conflict and the possibility of reconciliation. The film had a larger effect as it led to the formation of Hot Sun Foundation which trains the youth of the slums to make their own films. Plot Kibera Kid is the story of Otieno, a 12-year-old orphan from Kibera living with a gang of thieves who must make a choice between gang life and redemption. Togetherness Supreme
''Togetherness Supreme '' is a 2010 Kenyan film. Synopsis Based on actual events, ''Togetherness Supreme'' is the story of Kamau, an artist, searching for change in the midst of tribal tension in the slums. Kamau stands up against his father and his tribe to join a rival tribe with his friend Otieno. Kamau and Otieno fight for political change for those living in extreme poverty, but they are caught up in the middle of the ethnic conflict that tears apart their country and, furthermore, they are rivals for the love of Alice, a preacher's daughter. After a contested presidential election ( Kenyan presidential election of December 2007), the slums erupt in violence and Kamau's world collapses around him. Kibera
Kibera (Kinubi: ''Forest'' or ''Jungle'') is a division of Nairobi Area, Kenya, and neighbourhood of the city of Nairobi, from the city centre.
