HXC Recordings (also known as Hot Charity) was an independent record label, distributed by British record company, Beggars Group through XL Recordings. History The label was launched in 2012 by photographer and filmmaker Jamie-James Medina. The label's first signing was Chicago outsider artist Willis Earl Beal, releasing his debut album Acousmatic Sorcery on April 2, 2012. XL Recordings
XL Recordings is a British independent record label founded in 1989 by Tim Palmer and Nick Halkes. It has been ran and co-owned by Richard Russell since 1996. It forms part of the Beggars Group. ''700-Fill'' is the only mixtape by New York City hip hop group Ratking, which consisted of rappers Wiki and Hak, and producer Sporting Life. The album was self-released on March 4, 2015 via BitTorrent and was entirely produced by Sporting Life. ''So It Goes'' is the only studio album by New York City hip hop group Ratking, which consisted of rappers Wiki and Hak, and producer Sporting Life. It was released on April 8, 2014 by HXC Recordings. It was entirely engineered by Young Guru. The album's title was inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's novel ''Slaughterhouse-Five''. The album features collaborations with King Krule, Salomon Faye, and Wavy Spice. The album reached #13 on the ''Billboard'' Heatseekers Albums, #38 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and #21 on Rap Albums. Reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, ''So It Goes'' received an average score of 78 based on 19 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews." Jamie-James Medina
Jamie-James Medina is a British photographer, filmmaker and record label founder. He grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where his father worked as an expert in tropical medicine. Medina edits The Tourist, a limited edition newsprint publication focusing on music and travel and runs Hot Charity, an independent record label distributed by XL Recordings. In 2010, Medina presented his American Music Legends project, a special collection of images of the last surviving greats of rock' n 'roll, blues, jazz and country, it includes portraits of Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Etta James and Pinetop Perkins. This was followed by the first issue of The Tourist, featuring candid photographs of The xx, taken by Medina during their 2010 world tour. Single Mothers is a Canadian punk rock band based in London, Ontario that formed in 2008. The band released its debut studio album ''Negative Qualities'' in 2014. History Canadian Andrew Thomson formed Single Mothers in 2008 after a breakup. The band released two EPs in its early years, ''Wild Party'' in 2010 and ''Single Mothers'' in 2011, the latter of which was released through Secret Voice — an imprint of Jacob Bannon's Deathwish Inc. founded by Jeremy Bolm of Touché Amoré. Ratking (often stylized in all caps as RATKING) was an American hip hop group from New York City, which consisted of rappers Wiki and Hak, and producer Sporting Life. A leading force in the underground in the early 2010s, their music has been described as "stridently youthful", and the group themselves have stated they wished to reinvent rap music. On June 22, 2016, Hak announced his departure, citing that the group "didn't see me for me", and self-released his debut solo album ''June''. This led to the group's indefinite hiatus with Wiki and Sporting Life also venturing into further solo works.
