Hospital Music
''Hospital Music'' is the third solo album by Canadian musician Matthew Good. It was released on July 31, 2007. Good performed nearly all instruments himself, with the exception of drums and a few guitar and bass parts. The album artwork was painted by Vancouver artist Jeremy Crowle. The album's lead single, "Born Losers", was featured as the "Single of the Week" on the American iTunes Store for the week starting July 31, 2007. The debut was significant due to Good's lack of previous success in the U.S. market, where he had previously released only one album—2001's ''Beautiful Midnight'', which failed to make a major impact on U.S. charts. ''Hospital Music'' was nominated at the 2008 Juno Awards for Best Rock Album. Commercial performance ''Hospital Music'' debuted at #1 on the Canadian albums chart, selling over 11,000 copies in its first week of release. Dead Kennedys
Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the defining punk rock, punk bands during its initial eight-year run. Dead Kennedys' lyrics were usually political in nature, satirizing political figures and authority in general, as well as popular culture and even the punk movement itself. During their initial incarnation between 1978 and 1986, they attracted considerable controversy for their provocative lyrics and artwork. Several stores refused to stock their recordings, provoking debate about censorship in rock music; in the mid-1980s, vocalist and primary lyricist Jello Biafra became an active campaigner against the Parents Music Resource Center. Pat Steward
Pat Steward (born May 4, 1962) is a Canadian drummer and singer who is a member of the band Odds, and has recorded and toured with Bryan Adams and Matthew Good, among many others. Early life Steward was born in Vancouver, British Columbia to British parents who had recently relocated to the west coast of British Columbia. The family moved around the west coast in his youth; he began high school in Thousand Oaks, California and finished in Powell River, British Columbia. In high school, Steward was a keen student of the drums. At fifteen years old, he had a chance meeting with punk drumming pioneer Barry Taylor (K-Tels, the Young Canadians), and decided to hop on a Greyhound to Vancouver and hang out watching and sitting in as Barry and the Young Canadians played and rehearsed. The Pontiac Firebird is an American automobile that was built and produced by Pontiac from the 1967 to 2002 model years. Designed as a pony car to compete with the Ford Mustang, it was introduced on February 23, 1967, five months after GM's Chevrolet division's platform-sharing Camaro. ''Vancouver'' is the fourth studio album by Matthew Good, released on October 6, 2009. The album is a concept album, critically reflecting on Good's hometown city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In particular, the album is influenced by the social issues in the city's Downtown Eastside and the extreme disparities of wealth between Vancouver neighbourhoods. As Good had fulfilled his recording contract with Universal Music Canada with his previous 2007 release, ''Hospital Music'', he re-signed with the record label in early 2009 upon beginning studio recording. Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder, previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder characterized by periods of depression and periods of abnormally elevated mood that last from days to weeks each. If the elevated mood is severe or associated with psychosis, it is called mania; if it is less severe, it is called hypomania. During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy or irritable, and they often make impulsive decisions with little regard for the consequences. There is usually also a reduced need for sleep during manic phases. During periods of depression, the individual may experience crying and have a negative outlook on life and poor eye contact with others.
