The Hospital Militar Central Cirujano Mayor Dr. Cosme Argerich (Military Central Hospital Chief Surgeon Dr. Cosme Argerich) also known as Hospital Militar Central (Military Central Hospital) is a hospital owned by the Argentine Army in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina for the use of military personnel and their families. History At the end of the Paraguayan War at the behest of military physicians such as Caupolicán Molina and Ruiz Moreno, who worked at the "Men's general Hospital" and after the raging of the 19th Century yellow-fever epidemic in Buenos Aires, they opened the first organized Military Hospital in downtown Buenos Aires, then moved in 1898 to a bigger site and finally replaced in 1939 with the present-day complex. Paraguayan War
The Paraguayan War, also known as the War of the Triple Alliance, was a South American war that lasted from 1864 to 1870. Agustín Pedro Justo Rolón (26 February 1876 – 11 January 1943) was an Argentine military officer, diplomat and politician, who served as the president of Argentina from 1932 to 1938 during the Infamous Decade. Cosme Mariano Argerich (26 September 1758 – 14 February 1820) was a pioneer of military medical practices in Argentina. Biography Born in Buenos Aires, he became the first officer to be appointed as the Surgeon General in the Argentine Army. He received his medical doctorate in 1783 from the University of Cervera in Spain, and thereafter practiced medicine in Barcelona until 1784. Returning to Argentina that same year, he was instrumental in containing the smallpox epidemics of 1794 and 1796, becoming the country's primary advocate for popular immunization. During the English invasion attempts of 1806 and 1807, he distinguished himself in providing medical treatment to wounded soldiers.
