Hospital Maciel
Hospital Maciel is a hospital located in 25 de Mayo 174, Old City in Montevideo. It is one of the oldest hospitals in Uruguay. The land was originally donated in Spanish colonial times by philanthropist Francisco Antonio Maciel, who teamed up with Mateo Vidal to establish a hospital and charity. The first building was extended between 1781 and 1788, and later expanded on over time. The actual building is dated to 1825 with the plans of José Toribio (son of Tomás Toribio) and later Bernardo Poncini (wing on the Guaraní street, 1859), Eduardo Canstatt (corner of Guaraní and 25 de Mayo) and Julián Masquelez Julián is the Spanish equivalent of the name Julian. Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo
Ciudad Vieja (, ''Old City'') is a historic neighbourhood in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Located in a peninsula at the entrance of the natural port of Montevideo it was founded in 1724 as a walled city by the Spanish Empire, after the independence of Uruguay the city rapidly grew outwards and the Ciudad Vieja remained as one of the central neighbourhoods, nowadays it serves as one of the main office districts of Montevideo, housing multiple banks and institutions, but also as one of main tourist attractions in Uruguay due to its historical significance and classical architecture. Francisco Antonio Maciel
Francisco Antonio Maciel (September 16, 1757 – January 20, 1807 in Montevideo), was a Montevidean Criollo industrialist and philanthropist of the time of the Spanish colony. He was known as the "father of the poor." He was born into a prominent family in colonial Montevideo, originally from the Canary Islands. He built a farm on the banks of the Miguelete Stream, where he had a chapel built years later. At one point he felt the urgent need for a hospital in Montevideo, and Maciel founded the Maciel hospital, using his own resources. In 1787 it had a hall with eleven beds to help the sick. Mateo Vidal
Mateo Lucas Vidal Medina (17 October 1780 in Montevideo – 8 January 1855 in Buenos Aires) was a Uruguayan priest and politician. Elected deputy to the Assembly of the Year XIII. Later he took part in the Constituent Assembly that drafted the Argentine Constitution of 1826.
