Hosannas From The Basements Of Hell
''Hosannas from the Basements of Hell'' is the twelfth studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke, released on 3 April 2006 by Cooking Vinyl. Recording The album title refers to the location of the album recording. The band recorded the album in "Hell", the darkest basement studio at Studio Faust Records, run by Richard "Faust" Mader in Prague, Czech Republic. It was engineered by Jerry Kandiah, who also worked on the band's previous, self-titled, album. They made extensive use of Faust's vintage recording equipment from the late 1970s to achieve the atmosphere of the album. It was mixed by Mark Lusardi, who previously worked with the band on their very first release, '' Turn to Red'', in 1979. Killing Joke are an English rock music, rock band from Notting Hill, London, England, formed in 1979 by Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards), Paul Ferguson (drums), Geordie Walker (guitar) and Youth (musician), Youth (bass). Their first album, ''Killing Joke (1980 album), Killing Joke'', was released in 1980. After the release of ''Revelations (Killing Joke), Revelations'' in 1982, bassist Youth was replaced by Paul Raven (musician), Paul Raven. The band achieved mainstream success in 1985 with both the album ''Night Time (album), Night Time'' and the single "Love Like Blood (song), Love Like Blood". The band's musical style emerged from the post-punk scene, but stood out due to their heavier approach, and has been cited as a key influence on industrial rock.
