Horton Foote
Albert Horton Foote Jr. (March 14, 1916March 4, 2009) was an American playwright and screenwriter. He received Academy Awards for his screenplays for the 1962 film ''To Kill a Mockingbird'', which was adapted from the 1960 novel of the same name by Harper Lee, and his original screenplay for the film ''Tender Mercies'' (1983). He was also known for his notable live television dramas produced during the Golden Age of Television. Foote received the 1995 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play '' The Young Man From Atlanta''. He was the inaugural recipient of the Austin Film Festival's Distinguished Screenwriter Award. In 2000, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts. Early life Foote was born in 1916 in Wharton, Texas, the son of Harriet Gautier "Hallie" Brooks (1894–1974) and Albert Horton Foote (1890–1973). Horton Smith
Horton Smith (May 22, 1908 – October 15, 1963) was an American professional golfer, best known as the winner of the first and third Masters Tournaments. Tournament career Born in Springfield, Missouri, Smith turned professional in 1926 and won his first tournament, the Oklahoma City Open in 1928. In 1929 he won eight titles. This was an era of expansion and reorganization for professional golf. The PGA Tour was founded in 1934, and Smith was one of the leading players of the early years of the tour, topping the money list in 1936. He accumulated 30 PGA Tour titles in total, the last of them in 1941, and his two major championships came at the Masters, at the inaugural tournament in 1934 and again in 1936. Smith was a member of five Ryder Cup teams: 1929, 1931, 1933, 1935, and 1937. Horton Williams
The Honourable Horton Clement Williams QC (21 April 1933 – 17 December 2020) was a judge of the Supreme Court of South Australia who retired in 2003. Early life Williams was born in Sydney and attended Newington College (1947–1950).Newington College Register of Past Students 1863–1998 (Syd, 1999) pp 216 In 1950 his family moved to South Australia and he enrolled at the University of Adelaide and graduated in law. Legal career Williams was a Judge's Associate from 1954 until 1956 and was admitted to the South Australian Bar in 1955. From 1956 until 1977 he was in private practice. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1974. In 1995, he was appointed as the inaugural presiding member of South Australia's Gaming Supervisory Authority, the supervising regulator for the Adelaide Casino and licensed gaming machine premises, effective 1 July 1995. Horton the Elephant is a fictional character from the 1940 book ''Horton Hatches the Egg'' and 1954 book ''Horton Hears a Who!'', both by Dr. Seuss. In both books and subsequent media, Horton is characterized as a kind, sweet-natured and naïve elephant who manages to overcome hardships. In 1942, Warner Bros. made the animated short film, ''Horton Hatches the Egg'', in which Horton is voiced by Kent Rogers. In 1970, MGM Animation/Visual Arts made a 30-minute TV special of ''Horton Hears a Who!''. Horton is voiced by Hans Conried, who also lends his voice as the narrator.
