Hors Saison
''Off Season'' (french: Hors Saison) is a 1992 comedy film by Daniel Schmid, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Martin Suter. The film is semi-autobiographical for Schmid, who re-imagines the hotel he grew up in the Swiss Alps. The French-Swiss-German co-production premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival in August 1992, followed by a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival on 12 September 1992. The film was the Swiss submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee. Plot Adult narrator, (Sami Frey) recalls his mysterious childhood at a mountainside hotel which he shared with his mother, grandmother and the hotel's guests. Daniel Walter Schmid (26 December 1941 – 5 August 2006) was a Swiss theatre and film director. Biography In 1982, his film '' Hécate'' was entered into the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival. His film '' Beresina, or the Last Days of Switzerland'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. In 1988, he was a member of the jury at the 38th Berlin International Film Festival. A new documentary film on Schmid's life, ''Daniel Schmid – Le chat qui pense'', had its U.S. premiere at the Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco on 20 June 2011. Maurice Garrel
Maurice Garrel (24 February 1923 – 4 June 2011) was a French film actor. Garrel was born in Saint-Servais, Isère. He appeared in over a hundred films and was nominated twice for a César Award for best supporting actor: in 1991 for ''La Discrète'' and in 2005 for ''Kings and Queen''. Garrel was the father of producer Thierry Garrel and director Philippe Garrel, and the grandfather of actor Louis Garrel and actress Esther Garrel. Garrel died in Paris, aged 88. This is a list of submissions to the 65th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 65th Academy Awards, thirty-three films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. David Robinson (film Critic)
David Robinson (born 6 August 1930 in Lincoln) is an English film critic and author. He is a former film critic for both the ''Financial Times'' and ''The Times'' and wrote the official biography of Charlie Chaplin. Life Robinson began to write for '' Sight and Sound'' and the ''Monthly Film Bulletin'' during the 1950s, becoming assistant editor of ''Sight and Sound'' and editor of the ''Monthly Film Bulletin'' from 1957 to 1958. He was film critic of the ''Financial Times'' from 1958 to 1973, before taking up the same post at ''The Times'' in 1973.
