Bloodhorse (band)
Bloodhorse is an American heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts, United States, that formed late 2005. In 2007 they signed with Translation Loss Records, releasing their debut record "EP" in July of the same year. Biography Bloodhorse was formed in late 2005 by bassist Matt Woods, guitarist Adam Wentworth, and drummer Alex Garcia-Rivera in Boston, Massachusetts. All three members had previously played together in the hardcore punk band Bars. The three found a musical common ground of Deep Purple and The Who at their first practices. The first four songs the band wrote were quickly recorded by the band in their practice space and self-released as a CD demo titled "Black Lung Rising" in April 2006. A year of playing shows throughout the Northeast lead to the band signing with Philadelphia-based label Translation Loss Records in 2007 to release an EP simply titled "EP". Stoner Rock
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Sludge Metal
Sludge metal (also known as sludge or sludge doom) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated through combining elements of doom metal and hardcore punk. It is typically harsh and abrasive, often featuring shouted vocals, heavily distorted instruments and sharply contrasting tempos. The Melvins from the US state of Washington produced the first sludge metal albums in the mid-late 1980s. Characteristics The key characteristics of both sludge and doom metal are a slow tempo combined with down-tuned, heavily- distorted guitars to deliver the heaviest feel that is possible. The drummer must be able to lead the band through the slow parts of a piece with an accurate time feel, which is much harder to achieve when compared with playing faster pieces.
