Horacio Salgán
Horacio Adolfo Salgán (June 15, 1916 – August 19, 2016) was an Argentine tango musician. He was born in Buenos Aires to an established Afro-Argentine family. Some of Salgán's most well-known compositions include ''Del 1 al 5 (Días de pago)'' (1944), ''Don Agustín Bardi'' (1947), ''Entre tango y tango'' (1953), ''Grillito'', ''La llamo silbando'', ''Cortada de San Ignacio'', and ''A fuego lento''. He turned 100 in June 2016 and died two months later on August 19, 2016. Salgán began studying piano at age six. At age 18 he joined the cast of Radio Belgrano as a soloist and back-up musician. At 20 he was discovered by orchestra leader Roberto Firpo, who hired Salgán for his orchestra. In late 1942 he made his first recording, and in 1944 put together his own orchestra, which lasted until 1947. Pasquale Stafano
Pasquale Stafano (born 2 December 1972) is an Italian jazz pianist, composer and arranger who performs internationally. Biography Stafano was born in Stornarella and studied at the Music Conservatory in Foggia where he took two degrees in classical piano and in jazz. He has also a degree in economics. In 1999, he co-founded of the trio Nuevo Tango Ensamble. Stafano's seven albums include the 2021 '' Sparks'' recorded for Enja Records. His composition "Milonguita" was recorded by The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic on their album ''Hora Cero'' released by Sony Classical in 2016. Afro-Argentine Musicians
Afro-Argentines are people in Argentina of primarily Sub-Saharan African descent. The Afro-Argentine population is the result of people being brought over during the transatlantic slave trade during the centuries of Spanish domination in the region and immigration from Africa. During the 18th and 19th centuries they accounted for up to fifty percent of the population in certain cities, and had a deep impact on Argentine culture. Some old theories held it that in the 19th century the Afro-Argentine population declined sharply due to several factors, such as the Argentine War of Independence (c. 1810–1818), high infant mortality rates, low numbers of married couples who were both Afro-Argentine, the War of the Triple Alliance, cholera epidemics in 1861 and 1864 and a yellow fever epidemic in 1871. Tango
Tango is a partner dance and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. The tango was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries as the result of a combination of Rioplatense Candombe celebrations, Spanish-Cuban Habanera, and Argentine Milonga. The tango was frequently practiced in the brothels and bars of ports, where business owners employed bands to entertain their patrons. The tango then spread to the rest of the world. Many variations of this dance currently exist around the world.
