Horace Jackson
Horace Jackson (March 29, 1898 – January 26, 1952) was an American Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of the silent film, silent and sound film eras. Jackson also worked as a set designer early in his career. Life and career Born Horace Atherton Jackson on March 29, 1898 to Harry S. Jackson and Lena Atherton Jackson in Illinois. There are conflicting sources as to whether he was born in East St. Louis or Venice, Illinois, both suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri. His father died when he was five, and several years later his mother moved him and his sister, Helen, to the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles in approximately 1910. Prior to working in films, Jackson was an architect. Jackson broke into the film industry dressing sets on the 1923 silent film, ''The Unknown Purple''. ''Strange Cargo'' is a 1929 American mystery film directed by Arthur Gregor and starring Lee Patrick, June Nash and George Barraud. It was the first full sound film produced by Pathé Exchange, shortly afterwards to be merged into the major studio RKO Pictures. A separate silent version was also produced for theaters that had not yet been wired for sound. ''Lilac Time'' is a 1928 American silent romantic war film directed by George Fitzmaurice and starring Colleen Moore and Gary Cooper. The film is about young American aviators fighting for Britain during World War I who are billeted in a field next to a farmhouse in France. Howard Estabrook (born Howard Bolles, July 11, 1884 – July 16, 1978) was an American actor, film director and producer, and screenwriter. Biography Born Howard Bolles in Detroit, Michigan, Howard Estabrook began his career in 1904 as a stage actor in New York. He made his film debut in 1914 during the silent era, and would go on to appear in several features including '' Four Feathers''. Estabrook left films in 1916 for a try at the business world, but returned in 1921. Estabrook took on executive positions with various studios, and eventually began producing films in 1924. He soon found his calling in screenwriting. ''Cimarron'' is a 1931 pre-Code epic Western film directed by Wesley Ruggles, starring Richard Dix and Irene Dunne, and featuring Estelle Taylor and Roscoe Ates.
