Hopkinton City Historic District
Hopkinton City Historic District is a historic district encompassing the town center of Hopkinton, Rhode Island. The district is centered on the junction of Rhode Island Route 3 with Woodville Road, Clark Falls Road, Townhouse Road, and Old Rockville Road. It is a relatively modest town center, with twenty residences, two church buildings (one of which is no longer used as a church), the town hall, and post office. The most imposing house in the district is the Thurston-Wells House, a c. 1800 structure which was given a Victorian treatment in the mid-19th century; it stands opposite the 1836 Greek Revival First Baptist Church. The area was a major stop on the stagecoach route (now Route 3), and was eclipsed in the 20th century by the construction of Interstate 95, which passes nearby. Hopkinton, Rhode Island
Hopkinton is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island. The population was 8,398 at the 2020 census. History Hopkinton is named after Stephen Hopkins, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who was governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations when the town was partitioned from Westerly and incorporated in 1757. Hopkinton once featured a number of industrial villages, such as Locustville, Moscow, Centerville, and Wood River Iron Works, each being named after the mill which they surrounded. Today only Hope Valley, Rockville, Ashaway, and Bradford are recognized with a post office. The town hall is located in the village of Hopkinton City, which was once a stagecoach hub. Geography Hopkinton is found at 41.461 N latitude and 71.778 W longitude and borders Richmond and Charlestown. It is on the Pawcatuck River on the Connecticut border. Rhode Island Route 3
Route 3 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. Route 3 serves as a local alternative to Interstate 95 (I-95) as it parallels I-95 for almost its entire length. Route 3 in West Warwick was the site of The Station nightclub fire. Route description Route 3 starts at US 1 in Westerly. It begins heading north, and it has a partial interchange with the Westerly Bypass. Route 3 continues north, intersects I-95 at exit 1, and turns to the northeast to parallel I-95. After two more interchanges with I-95, Route 3 passes through downtown Coventry. Continuing east into West Warwick, Route 3 terminates at Route 2 on the West Warwick/Warwick town line. Interstate 95 (I-95) is the main north–south Interstate Highway on the east coast of the United States, running generally southwest-northeast through the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It runs from the border with Connecticut near Westerly, through Warwick and Providence, and to the Massachusetts state line in Pawtucket.
