Hope Valley Reservoir
The Hope Valley Reservoir is a service reservoir in Hope Valley, South Australia, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. When completed in 1873 it was the second reservoir constructed in Adelaide; it is the oldest still in use in South Australia. It covers and is retained behind a long clay-cored earth wall. Hope Valley, South Australia
Hope Valley is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Tea Tree Gully. History Hope Valley was more the result of random settlement than of actual town planning. Jacob Pitman first purchased an section (Section 824) in 1839. In the early 1840s he sold a few allotments. One such allotment was purchased in 1841 by his friend William Holden (journalist), William Holden who set up a butcher's shop and general store. The site of this store was near the present corner of Grand Junction Road, Grand Junction and Valley Roads. Holden is credited with naming the area "''Hope Valley''" after returning home in 1842 to find that his house and business had burnt down in a Bushfires in Australia, bushfire, but rather than becoming despondent, he felt optimistic. Holden left the area in 1851 to pursue a career in journalism. Hope Valley was mainly settled by German settlement in Australia, German emigrants escaping religious persecution. The River Torrens , (Karrawirra Parri / Karrawirraparri) is the most significant river of the Adelaide Plains. It was one of the main reasons for the siting of the city of Adelaide, capital of South Australia. Kangaroo Creek Reservoir
Kangaroo Creek Reservoir is a artificial water storage reservoir in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It was built from 1966 to 1969, by damming the River Torrens west of Cudlee Creek. The stored water is used to maintain the Hope Valley Reservoir's level via discharge through the Torrens. Water is held back by a long, high concrete clad, rock filled dam wall. Millbrook Reservoir
Millbrook Reservoir is a 16,000-megalitre artificial water storage reservoir in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It was built from 1914 to 1918 during World War I to control water flows in the upper River Torrens and provide gravity-fed water to Adelaide's eastern suburbs. It is named after the small town of Millbrook, demolished and removed during construction. During the 1970s, the nearby town of Chain of Ponds was also removed to prevent pollution of the reservoir's water. Millbrook covers behind a clay-cored earth dam. It lies on Chain of Ponds creek, a tributary of the River Torrens. Water in the reservoir is piped from a weir near Gumeracha but it is also used to balance storage of River Murray water via the Mannum–Adelaide pipeline.
