Hope Bourne
Hope Bourne ( Hartland, Devon, 192022 August 2010) was a self-sufficient painter and writer who lived alone in primitive cottages and a caravan on Exmoor Exmoor is loosely defined as an area of hilly open moorland in west Somerset and north Devon in South West England. It is named after the River Exe, the source of which is situated in the centre of the area, two miles north-west of Simonsbath ..., surviving by growing her own vegetables, fishing, and hunting for rabbits. Known as the Lady of Exmoor, she wrote five books on Exmoor and one novel set in North Devon, was the subject of three TV documentaries and contributed a weekly column to ''The West Somerset Free Press''. Withypool
Withypool (formerly Widepolle, Widipol, Withypoole) is a small village in Somerset, England, near the centre of Exmoor National Park and close to the border with Devon. The word Withy means "willow". The civil parish, known as Withypool and Hawkridge, covers , includes the village of Hawkridge and has a population around 201. Withypool is in the Barle Valley on the River Barle. The village lies on the route of the Two Moors Way and the Celtic Way Exmoor Option. To the southwest of the village lie Withypool Common and Withypool Hill. History The area around Withypool has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and the Withypool Stone Circle can still be seen on top of Withypool Hill. Hartland, Devon
The village of Hartland, whose parish incorporates the hamlet of Stoke to the west and the village of Meddon in the south, is the most north-westerly settlement in the county of Devon, England. Now a large village which acts as a centre for a rural neighbourhood and has minor tourist traffic, until Tudor times Hartland was an important port. It lies close to the promontory of Hartland Point, where the coast of Devon turns from facing north into the Bristol Channel to face west into the Atlantic Ocean. There is an important lighthouse on the point. The town's harbour, Hartland Quay, is to the south of the point: the quay was originally built in the late 16th century but was swept away in 1887. The high tower of the Church of Saint Nectan in Stoke remains a significant landmark for ships in the Bristol Channel. The appropriate electoral ward is called ''Hartland'' ''and Bradworthy''.
