Honor Moore
Honor Moore is an American writer of poetry, creative nonfiction and plays. Biography She is the daughter of Jenny Moore and of Bishop Paul Moore. She is the author of three collections of poems: ''Red Shoes'', ''Darling'', and ''Memoir''; two works of nonfiction, ''The White Blackbird'' and ''The Bishop's Daughter''; and the play ''Mourning Pictures'', which was produced on Broadway and published in ''The New Women’s Theatre: Ten Plays by Contemporary American Women'', which she edited. Moore has received awards in poetry and playwriting from the National Endowment for the Arts, The New York State Council for the Arts and the Connecticut Commission for the Arts and in 2004 was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 2012, Moore served as the prestigious Bedell Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Iowa's Nonfiction Writing Program. Poetry
Poetry (derived from the Greek ''poiesis'', "making"), also called verse, is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language − such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre − to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, a prosaic ostensible meaning. A poem is a literary composition, written by a poet, using this principle. Poetry has a long and varied history, evolving differentially across the globe. It dates back at least to prehistoric times with hunting poetry in Africa and to panegyric and elegiac court poetry of the empires of the Nile, Niger, and Volta River valleys. Some of the earliest written poetry in Africa occurs among the Pyramid Texts written during the 25th century BCE. A year or annus is the orbital period of a planetary body, for example, the Earth, moving in its orbit around the Sun.
