Grand Master Hong Sung-chon (May 3, 1945) is an early proponent of Taekwondo in the Philippines. Many filipino champions, such as Monsour Del Rosario, Samuel Morrison, Jordan Dominguez and Elaine Alora have been produced under his tutelage. He is a director of the Kukiwon's List of Grand Masters. Grandmaster and Master are titles used to describe or address some senior or experienced martial artists. Typically these titles are honorary in nature, meaning that they do not confer rank, but rather distinguish the individual as very highly revered in their school, system, or style. History Asian martial arts traditionally use terms that are usually translated as "teacher" and the use of "master" was a Western invention derived from 1950s United States war veterans returning home with stories of the incredible martial feats of certain individuals and groups. Taekwondo In The Philippines
Taekwondo was introduced to the Philippines through the efforts of Kim Bok Man and Young Man Park. Grand Master Kim Bok Man arrived in 1970 to continue Park's legacy of propagating Taekwondo upon the invitation of President Marcos. Kim continued to pioneer Taekwondo worldwide and left the Philippines in 1971. In 1975, Grand Master Hong Sung-chon came to the Philippines to promote Taekwondo, eventually establishing the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA). The current central headquarters of the PTA is at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. The PTA is a member of the Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Federation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Asian Taekwondo Union. Monsour Del Rosario
Manuel Monsour Tabib del Rosario III (born May 11, 1965) is a Filipino actor, martial artist, producer, and politician. He is popularly known as a Filipino taekwondo champion and actor who starred in several Filipino and international action films. He is the Secretary General of the Philippine Taekwondo Association and a member of the Philippine Olympic National Sports Association Martial Arts Council. He has also served as a city councilor representing the 1st district of Makati from 2010 to 2016 and later as congressman representing the same district from 2016 to 2019. His first run for councilor in 2007 and for vice mayor of Makati in 2019 were unsuccessful. He ran for senator in the 2022 Philippine general elections. Samuel Morrison (taekwondo)
Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison (born March 26, 1990, in Olongapo, Zambales), also known as Butch Morrison, is a Filipino taekwondo practitioner. Career Early career During his childhood Morrison played recreational basketball. Being an avid viewer of '' Power Rangers'' and Masked Rider, these shows influenced Morrison to take up taekwondo and he started to learn the sport in a local taekwondo gym in Olongapo. Collegiate Morrison attended the University of Santo Tomas and was part of the Tiger Jins, the university's taekwondo team. He won gold for UST at the UAAP in 2008. By 2011 he was reported to be a student of the Far Eastern University. International Morrison has competed at the world championships three times.
