Hong Kong Open (tennis)
The Hong Kong Open (currently sponsored by Prudential and called the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open) is a professional tennis tournament in Hong Kong SAR. Organised by the Hong Kong Tennis Association, the tournament is held annually in early October in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay on the WTA International tier. The Hong Kong Tennis Open was previously named the Salem Open that began in 1973 and discontinued in 2002. The current tournament resumed in September 2014 in Hong Kong. History The Hong Kong Open (also known as the Salem Open) was also previously a men's tennis tournament that was held in Hong Kong on the Grand Prix tour from (1973–1987) and the ATP Tour from (1990–2002). Players competed in the Victoria Park Tennis Centre, on outdoor hard courts. Michael Chang held the record number of wins with three titles. Victoria Park, Hong Kong
Victoria Park ( zh, t=維多利亞公園, s=维多利亚公园, p=Wéiduōlìyà Gōngyuán) is a public park in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai District, Hong Kong. The park is named after Queen Victoria, who has a statue in the park. It is around in size and contains sporting facilities for tennis, association football, basketball, handball, volleyball, swimming, jogging, fitness, roller skating, and bowling. The park first opened to the public in October 1957 and was revamped in the early 2000s. Owned and operated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong, the park is open all year, free of admission charge. It is Hong Kong's most popular public park, with more visitors than Hong Kong and Kowloon parks combined. ATP Tour
The ATP Tour is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for men organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals. The second-tier tour is the ATP Challenger Tour and the third-tier is the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour. The equivalent women's organisation is the WTA Tour. ATP Tour tournaments The ATP Tour comprises ATP Masters 1000, ATP 500, and ATP 250 and the ATP Cup. The ATP also oversees the ATP Challenger Tour, a level below the ATP Tour, and the ATP Champions Tour for seniors. Marcie Louie
Marcelyn J. Louie (born 10 September 10, 1953) is an American former professional tennis player. Biography Born in San Francisco, Louie is a Chinese-American and one of five children. Her father Ronald was a kung fu instructor. The youngest sister in the family, Mareen (better known as Peanut), was also a professional tennis player, while the three other siblings played tennis at college level. Louie, who wore glasses on court, turned professional in 1972 and played at Wimbledon for the first time that year, where she scored a 10–8 third set win over Julie Heldman en route to the third round. In 1975 she had a win over Margaret Court at the Family Circle Cup on Amelia Island and won her biggest career title at the Canadian Open, defeating Laura DuPont in the final. Wendy Turnbull
Wendy Turnbull, , (born 26 November 1952) is a retired tennis player from Australia. During her career, she won nine Grand Slam titles, four of them in women's doubles and five of them in mixed doubles. She also was a three-time Grand Slam runner-up in singles and won 11 singles titles and 55 doubles titles. Career Turnbull turned professional in 1975. Her career high rankings were third in singles and fifth in doubles. She was ranked in the year-end world top 20 for 10 consecutive years (1977 through 1986) and in the year-end world top 10 for eight consecutive years from 1977 to 1984. Sabine Lisicki
Sabine Katharina Lisicki (; born 22 September 1989) is a German professional tennis player. Lisicki turned professional in 2006, and her breakthrough came in 2009 when she reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships, and also won her first title on the WTA Tour, at the Family Circle Cup. In March 2010, she suffered an ankle injury at the Indian Wells Open that kept her out of competition for five months and saw her fall out of the top 200. Lisicki rebounded in 2011 and won the Eastbourne Classic before entering the Wimbledon Championships as a wildcard and going on to reach the semifinals, where she lost to Maria Sharapova. In doing so she became only the second woman in Wimbledon history to make it to the semifinals while entering the tournament as a wildcard. Peng Shuai
Peng Shuai (; born 8 January 1986) is a Chinese retired professional tennis player. In February 2014, she was ranked world No. 1 doubles player by the WTA, becoming the first Chinese tennis player to achieve that ranking (in either singles or doubles). She peaked at No. 14 of the singles rankings in August 2011, and won two singles and 23 doubles titles on the WTA Tour. The WTA Tour is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for women organized by the Women's Tennis Association. The second-tier tour is the WTA 125K series, and third-tier is the ITF Women's Circuit. The men's equivalent is the ATP Tour. PTT Thailand Open (ATP)
The Thailand Open was a professional tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. It was part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour. It was held annually in Bangkok, Thailand, in the third week of September, since 2003. From 2005 to 2007, a WTA Tier III, the PTT Bangkok Open, was also held in the region before being discontinued. Roger Federer is the only man to have won the singles competition more than once, in 2004 and 2005, while Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich are the only doubles pair to have won the competition multiple times, in 2003 and 2006. In 2007, Sonchat Ratiwatana and Sanchai Ratiwatana became the first Thai champions of the event, winning in the final against Wimbledon doubles champion Michaël Llodra, and partner Nicolas Mahut. Loophole
A loophole is an ambiguity or inadequacy in a system, such as a law or security, which can be used to circumvent or otherwise avoid the purpose, implied or explicitly stated, of the system. Originally, the word meant an arrowslit, a narrow vertical window in a wall through which an archer (or, later, gunman) could shoot. Loopholes were commonly used in U.S. forts built during the 1800s. Located in the sally port, a loophole was considered a last ditch defense, where guards could close off the inner and outer doors trapping enemy soldiers and using small arms fire through the slits. Loopholes are distinct from lacunae, although the two terms are often used interchangeably. In a loophole, a law addressing a certain issue exists, but can be legally circumvented due to a technical defect in the law, such as a situation where the details are under-specified.
