Hong Kong First Division
The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941. Competition format Each team plays the other teams in the division twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. The top two teams in the league are offered promotion to the Premier League while the bottom two are relegated to the Hong Kong Second Division. The Asian Football Confederation is the governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in some countries/territories in Asia and Oceania. It has 47 member countries most of which are located in Asia. Australia, formerly in Oceania Football Confederation, OFC, joined AFC in 2006. Happy Valley AA
Happy Valley Athletic Association (), known simply as Happy Valley or HVAA, is a Hong Kong football club which currently competes in the Hong Kong First Division. They are historically one of the most successful football clubs in Hong Kong, having won the First Division six times and had consistently been in the top division, until they were relegated to the Second Division after the 2009–10 season. The club is part of a sports association which also operates swimming, basketball, first aid, table tennis, athletics and various other recreation activities under its umbrella. Iain Hesford
Iain Hesford (4 March 1960 – 18 November 2014) was an English professional footballer. He played as a goalkeeper for teams including Blackpool, Eastern, Sunderland and South China. Early career Hesford began his career at Blackpool, where he played more than 200 games and won seven caps for the England Under-21 team. When he made his debut, against Oldham Athletic on 20 August 1977, aged 17, he became the youngest goalkeeper ever to play for Blackpool in a League game. As he ran out for the second half, he offended the ''Latics'' support by flashing them a "V" sign. In 1983, he was signed by Sheffield Wednesday, but didn't play a single game for the Owls. Kitchee Sports Club (; ; ) is a Hong Kong professional Association football, football club based in Kowloon. It was founded in 1931 and currently competes in the Hong Kong Premier League. The club has won championships in Hong Kong 11 times, including 6 Hong Kong First Division titles and 5 Hong Kong Premier League titles. Dale Tempest
Dale Michael Tempest (, born 30 December 1963, in Leeds) is a former professional footballer, best known for his time spent playing in Hong Kong. Born in England but spent much of his youth in Peebles, Scotland, Tempest had played for several English teams including Fulham, Huddersfield Town, Gillingham and Colchester United before arriving in Hong Kong. Ho Cheung Yau
Ho Cheng Yau (1933–2016) was a Hong Kong former professional footballer. He represented Hong Kong in 1950s to 1960s. Ho represented Hong Kong in 1954 and 1958 Asian Games. The football section of Hong Kong Football Club (Abbreviation: HKFC; ) fields a range of teams at various age divisions in the Hong Kong leagues. The first team currently competes in the Hong Kong Premier League. History While the football team has won many titles in the second-tier competition in recent years, they have rarely enjoyed success when playing against the professional sides in the First Division. Wong Tai Sin District Recreation & Sports Council (, abbreviated as WTS DRSC, also known as Wong Tai Sin) is a football club which currently plays in the Hong Kong First Division League. It is operated by Wong Tai Sin District Council. History Founded in 1979, Wong Tai Sin joined the Third Division League in 1980s. In 1990, due to the expansion of Second Division League, the club was being promoted to the second-tier division. Yuen Long Football Club (), previously known as Best Union Yuen Long () for sponsorship reasons, is a Hong Kong professional football club based in Yuen Long which currently competes in the Hong Kong First Division. The football teams of the club were originally organised by Yuen Long District Sports Association (). In 2013, Yuen Long Football Club was established as a private entity, separate from the district sports association. Hong Kong FA Cup
Hong Kong FA Cup () is a knockout cup competition in Hong Kong football, run by and named after The Hong Kong Football Association. The first edition of the competition was held in 1975, before then the cup was known as the Golden Jubilee Cup. The current season is the 45th edition of the event. 14 different teams have won the cup with 10-time champions South China being the most successful. In the first three years, the semi-finals and the finals were two-legged events. If the aggregate result was drawn, there would be extra time after the second leg. Drawn ties after extra time would be settled by a replay. However, this practice was abandoned in 1977. Since 1978, all matches have become one-legged, draws are settled by extra time and penalty shootouts.
