Hong Kah Group Representation Constituency
Hong Kah Group Representation Constituency was a five-member Group Representation Constituency located in the western area of Singapore. The constituency covered the areas of Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Upper Bukit Timah, Jurong West and Lim Chu Kang. Hong Kah GRC was formed in 1988 and eventually dissolved and reformed into Chua Chu Kang GRC in 2011. It had always been held by the People's Action Party. It was divided into five sub-areas namely, Bukit Gombak, Hong Kah, Keat Hong, Nanyang and Yew Tee. In 2001, Bukit Gombak SMC was absorbed into the GRC with the town council being Hong Kah Town Council. Yeo Cheow Tong
Yeo Cheow Tong (; born 22 June 1947) is a former Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he served in the Cabinet from 1990 to 2006, and was a Member of Parliament (MP) of Hong Kah SMC from 12 December 1984 to 17 August 1988 and MP of Hong Kah GRC from 24 August 1988 to 19 April 2011 for almost 27 years. Early life Yeo was educated at Anglo-Chinese School, before receiving a Colombo Plan Scholarship in 1967 to study at the University of Western Australia, where he received a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree. 1997 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 2 January 1997. President Ong Teng Cheong dissolved parliament on 16 December 1996 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The election results were released in the late evening that day and the ruling People's Action Party won a total of 81 out of 83 seats as well as a tenth consecutive term in office under the then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. Other major political parties contesting in the election were the Workers' Party, Singapore Democratic Party, National Solidarity Party, Singapore People's Party and the Democratic Progressive Party. Cheo Chai Chen
Cheo Chai Chen ( zh, s=蒋才正, p=Jiǎng Cáizhèng) is a Singaporean former politician and businessman. He won the constituency of Nee Soon Central and served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency from 1991 to 1997, when he was a member of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP). Biography Cheo is a graduate of Nanyang University, where he studied in the Department of Government and Public Administration. Cheo first stood for Parliament at the 1988 general election, where he was defeated by Ng Pock Too of the governing People's Action Party (PAP) in Nee Soon Central. 2001 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 3 November 2001. President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 18 October 2001 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won 82 of the 84 elected seats in Parliament. Ang Mong Seng
Ang Mong Seng ( zh, s=洪茂诚, p=Hóng Màochéng; born 30 September 1949) is a Malaysia-born Singaporean former politician. He was a Member of Parliament for the Bukit Gombak ward under Hong Kah Group Representation Constituency (Hong Kah GRC) from 2001 to 2011. Ang graduated from the former Nanyang University and worked at the Housing and Development Board during the 1970s. Chua Chu Kang Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) located in the western region of Singapore. The constituency encompasses Choa Chu Kang New Town. It is one of the longest existing constituencies in Singapore, spanning 52 years from 1959 to 2011. Throughout its relatively long history, the ruling People's Action Party has won the constituency in every election, except the 1963 general election when it lost the seat to opposition party Barisan Sosialis.
